The program was founded for the 2018/19 season with a single male team, which will compete in both the CSSHL U17 Prep and U18 Prep events. In 2022 the Female U18 program was added,  making them the first high school in California to have a girl’s ice hockey program. Former NHLer Domenic Pittis is the St. Mary’s High School Director of Hockey and Head Coach for the boys and girls varsity teams.

“I feel playing in the CSSHL gives our players and our program the chance to play against some of the best competition in North America.  Our school in Northern California, has a long history of having students that have been able to be successful in basketball, baseball, football, volleyball and Athletics while also excelling academically . Getting the chance for our program to be involved in the CSSHL will help us to raise the level of our hockey program as well,” said Pittis.

“We are excited to have St. Mary’s High School attend some of our CSSHL events this season as we continue to build relationships across North America,” added CSSHL Chief Operating Officer Kevin Goodwin.
