Request for Nominations for Chair and Board of the CSSHL

The Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) is establishing a diverse independent Board of Directors for the first time in its history. We are looking for a talented, experienced, and committed group of individuals to serve as Directors to help govern this leading league of hockey academies across Canada and several states in the USA.

The CSSHL Nominating Committee (NC), is an independent arm’s length group of volunteers with experience across different industries, sports, and organizations supporting this endeavor on behalf of the CSSHL. The NC is committed to recruiting and putting forward a diverse final list of candidates who will collectively possess a wide range of skills and experiences required by the league. The NC will undertake a thorough and rigorous process to complete these tasks, including screening and vetting all potential candidates, prior to the elections.

THE KEY PROCESS DATES FOR THE RECRUITING / ELECTION PROCESS FOR THE CSSHL BOARD OF DIRECTORS WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

  • August 9, 2023 Call for Nominations
  • September 8, 2023 Deadline to Submit Nominations
  • October 12, 2023 Final List of Candidates Provided to Members
  • November 16, 2023 Virtual Election of Chair and Board Members

These dates, including the election date, have been identified by the Nominating Committee as the necessary timeframe for it to perform its duties appropriately.

The following list is the important skills that will assist in identifying candidates who will appear on the election ballot. Potential candidates should demonstrate their experience in the application of those skills. Most of these will incorporate many elements covering a broad spectrum of attributes required for competent leadership.

  • Decision Making and Capacity to Challenge
  • Risk Identification, Assessment and Management
  • Influencing Skills
  • Communication and Collaboration Acumen

  • Sponsorship, Communication and Marketing Expertise
  • Digital and Technology Knowledge

An important part of the process will be the screening and interviewing of potential candidates by the committee. The NC is committed to a respectful, professional, and fair process that will unfortunately only allow for a certain number to appear on the ballot.

All Board positions are open for election, including the Chair and six (6) Director positions. The first election of the CSSHL Board of Directors and Chair election will be presented as a recommended slate by the NC.  The election will be virtual.

The Nominating Committee will provide updates and is available for any questions.

Potential candidates must download and complete an application form and include a brief cover letter that indicates the skills they possess which would make them a suitable nominee for the Board.  Communication with most applicants will occur electronically, except for those who are shortlisted.

About Us

The Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) was established in 2009 and has grown to feature 32 accredited schools and 114 teams from British Columbia to Prince Edward Island and the states of Idaho and Washington. The league was designed specifically for elite level student athletes, giving them the opportunity to focus on their education while increasing their skills off and on the ice and providing them with a high level of competition and exposure. Currently, the CSSHL includes seven different divisions at the U15, U17, U18 Male and U18 Female levels.
