Yale Hockey Academy U17 Prep defenseman EJ Emery has been named to the U.S. National Under-17 team for the 2022/23 season.
The Surrey, BC product has spent the past three seasons in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). He joined the BWC Academy U15 team in 2019/20, tallying 37 points in 30 games while capturing the divisions Top Defenseman award. Emery would return to BWC Academy with their U15 Prep team for the 2020/21 campaign, recording one goal and six assists in six games.
He would suit up for the Yale U17 Prep team during the 2021/22 season, finishing with 14 goals and 20 assists in 33 games. Emery would also represent Team B.C. at the 2021 WHL Cup, recording two assists in five games as Team B.C. captured gold.
Emery was selected by the Saskatoon Blades in the third round, 65th overall in the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.
The National Team Development Program (NTDP) is a two-year residency program for high-performance players that is located at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. The Under-17 Team plays in the United States Hockey League, as well as against select competition in the North American Hockey League and Minnesota Elite League. Each season, the U17 Team also competes in three international tournaments.
