Schaefer Signs with Oilers

Reid Schaefer has signed a National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Level Contract with the Edmonton Oilers after he was selected in the first round, 32nd overall by the team at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

The Spruce Grove, AB spent two seasons in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with OHA Edmonton. Schaefer would join the program in 2017/18, recording 23 points in 27 games as OHA Edmonton would capture a  CSSHL U15 Prep League Championship. Following the 2017/18 season the Seattle Thunderbirds would select Schaefer in the eighth round, 164th overall at the 2018 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

Schaefer would return to OHA Edmonton for the 2018/19 season, recording 24 points in 34 U18 Prep games. The following season he would join the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), tallying 16 points in 33 games. He would then spend the next two seasons in the WHL with the Thunderbirds, finishing with 60 points in 74 games, including 58 in 66 this year as Seattle reached the WHL Finals.
