Overtime Win Gives Edge School Back-to-Back U18 Prep Championships

For the second straight year Edge School have been crowned Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) U18 Prep Western Champions.

Edge defeated the first place Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) 3-2 in overtime to complete the repeat.

Owen Cooper opened the scoring 4:19 into the first, burying a rebound from the slot on Jordan Switzer (37/40). Defenseman Landon DuPont, who tied the U18 Prep single postseason point total with 15, then set-up Cruz Pavao who buried a shot glove side as Edge led 2-0 11:34 in.

Ryan Richardson got NAX on the board with 27 seconds left in the period as a seeing-eye shot found the back of the net from the point, beating Ryley Budd (33/35) blocker side.

After a scoreless second, Jager Gugyelka tied the game 2:37 into the third as a point shot through a screen was once again the answer for NAX.

The game would eventually head to OT where a Pavao pass off the rush allowed Luke Vlooswyk to one-time home the game winning goal.

Edge School won the first four CSSHL U18 Prep Western Championships from 2010-13. They would win again in 2017 before their most recent back-to-back Championships in 2023 and 2024. Overall the program now has nine CSSHL Western Championships.
