Former Edge School head coach Carla MacLeod has been named the first head coach in franchise history for the newly formed Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team based out of Ottawa.
MacLeod was the head coach of the Edge School Female U18 Prep for four seasons, starting in the 2017/18 season. During her time in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with Edge she compiled a 47-23-6 regular season record while leading Edge to their first ever CSSHL Female Prep Western Championship during the 2019/20 season.
The Spruce Grove, AB product would become the head coach of the University of Calgary Dinos female team for the 2021/22 U SPORTS season. Since then, she has led the Czechia women’s National Team for the past two seasons.
Founded in August 2023, the Professional Women’s Hockey League is a professional ice hockey league in North America comprising three teams in Canada (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto) and three teams in the United States (Boston, Minnesota, New York). The 2024 season will see the teams play 24 games from January until the end of May.
