Wilkinson named head coach of OHA Edmonton U15 team

OHA Edmonton General Manager Randall Weber announced today that Ryan Wilkinson has been named the Head Coach of the newly formed OHA Edmonton U15 team for the 2020-21 season.

Wilkinson has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with OHA Edmonton, working with the U18 Prep, U16 Prep and U15 Prep teams, and was an assistant coach with Zone 6 at the 2020 Alberta Winter Games.

“Ryan has done a tremendous job as an assistant coach the past three seasons,” said Weber. “His attention to detail and passion for the game was evident as he assisted the head coaches in day-to-day operations including practice preparation, leading practices, running skills sessions and much more. As an excellent skills development coach, moving Ryan into a head coach position with our U15 team truly fits the direction of this team.”

Prior to coaching, Wilkinson spent five seasons playing in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the St. Albert Steel and Calgary Mustangs, accumulating 107 points (15-92-107) in 223 career games. He went on to play four seasons of NCAA hockey with SUNY-Fredonia, where he was named team captain his senior season and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. Wilkinson was a four-time SUNYAC All-Academic team member, a three-year SUNYAC Commissioner’s Academic List member and recipient of the Michael K. McDonald Award.

The St. Albert, AB product spent 10 years as a skating and stick handling coach with Quantum Speed High Performance Skating Systems.
