The University of Alberta Golden Bears have announced their 2021/22 men’s hockey recruiting class and among the eight recruits include two former Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes.
Wyatt McLeod and Josh Prokop will both suit up for the Golden Bears after finishing their Western Hockey League (WHL) careers this past season.
McLeod spent the 2015/16 season in the CSSHL with the Pursuit of Excellence U18 Prep team, tallying 16 points in 36 games. Originally a seventh-round pick, 143rd overall by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, the Dawson Creek, BC defenseman played his first four WHL seasons with the Oil Kings. He would join the Saskatoon Blades for the 2020/21 campaign, spending five years in the WHL. In 228 WHL games McLeod would finish with 12 goals and 57 assists. Upon the conclusion of his WHL career McLeod would join the Utah Grizzlies in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) for a 15-game stint.
Prokop would spend two seasons with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), winning a U16 Prep CSSHL League Championship in 2015/16, and leading the U18 Prep division in scoring the following year with 57 points in 30 games. A fifth-round pick, 92nd overall by Swift Current Broncos in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, Prokop would join the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) for the 2017/18 season, tallying 36 points in 48 games. He would start the 2018/19 season with the Vipers, playing six games, before joining the Calgary Hitmen for the remainder of the year. He would spend the following two seasons in the WHL including captaining the Hitmen during the 2020/21 campaign. In 143 WHL games the Edmonton, AB forward recorded 34 goals and 54 assists.
