A record 95 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes were selected in the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft on Thursday, December 9, 2021.
The 95 student-athletes selected beat the previous record of 85 set in 2019 and makes up 44.6% of the 214 total players selected in this year’s draft.
Along with the 95 student-athletes selected December 9, Delta Hockey Academy forward Mikhail Levaniuk was selected 18th overall by the Vancouver Giants in the 2021 WHL U.S. Priority Draft which took place December 8.
12 players were selected in the first round, with Delta Hockey Academy forward Jordan Gavin holding the honour of the first CSSHL player selected, as the Tri-City Americans drafted him second overall. Charlie Elick of Edge School was the highest drafted defenseman, selected third overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings. Notre Dame netminder Ethan McCallum was the first goalie selected, taken in the second round, 39th overall by the Medicine Hat Tigers.
