OUR PHILOSOPHY

At our hockey academy, we believe that the pursuit of excellence in sport can serve as a foundation for personal growth and development. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that hockey is not just a game, but a way of life that requires dedication, discipline, and a commitment to hard work.

EARNED, NOT GIVEN.

LOCATION

CIHA is located in the world renowned Winsport Facility at  Canada Olympic Park.  Winsport is located in the Northwest Quadrant of Calgary where you can take in the stunning view of the city skyline to the east and the Rocky Mountains to the west.

The facility offers one Olympic Size Ice surface and three NHL size ice surfaces, along with a state of the art Performance Training Center and Team Canada Gym.  Physical and Mental Health are a primary focus for our athletes here at CIHA.  Within the Winsport facility you can find Group 23 Sports Medicine who are dedicated to providing an exceptional level of care that helps overcome the physical challenges from injury in sport or activity. Benson Concussion Institute which is an innovative, physician led multidisciplinary high performance sport concussion program. Each of our teams is staffed with a professional Athletic Therapist who will attend all team practices and games.  The Athletic Therapist will refer athletes to the above mentioned medical services as necessary.  When an athlete is unwell or injured there is constant communication between the Athlete, Athlete’s Family, Coaching Staff, Medical Professionals and the Athletic Therapist.  This process has proven to support the quickest path to recovery.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

It is recognized that some youth athletes do leave home to play hockey in a location away from their parents/guardians. In these circumstances, CIHA will arrange for the athlete to live with a host or billet family. The development of an athlete starts at home. CIHA is committed to supporting these athletes and their families through this process.  Regular communication with the athlete, athlete’s family, coaching staff and billet coordinator will help develop a strong and open bond between all involved to cultivate a respectful environment for the athlete to have the best start in finding success.

EDUCATION

All athletes at CIHA have the opportunity to attend the National Sports School.

At the National Sport School, we provide a supportive learning environment to enable developing high-performance athletes to mature as self-directed, life-long learners while pursuing excellence in sport.

No other school in Canada exists on a campus quite like ours at WinSport. We offer and maintain high-performance facilities where the world’s best come to train and compete. The location at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park offers a unique duality: premier training facilities collaborating with an onsite esteemed school.

CIHA is proud of our athlete’s dedication in managing a balance of sport and academics.  To help support this CIHA offers each of our athletes a regular monthly ( or more often if deemed necessary) meeting with our Academic Partner Liaison.  Academics are top priority and a level of success is individually set and supported through regular contact and monitoring.   In collaboration with NSS and our Academic Partner Liaison the students path to graduation is developed and set into motion with course selection and accommodations to complete these courses.   Study hall is held during all out of town travel along with regular support during the weeks at home.
