OHA Edmonton names Weinberger Assistant Coach

Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) Edmonton General Manager Randall Weber announced today that Darryl Weinberger has been added to the coaching staff as an Assistant Coach.

“Darryl has been a huge part of OHA Edmonton’s education partnership with Vimy Ridge over the past three years,” said Weber. “Now with his addition to our coaching staff, it further strengthens our commitment to the education component of our program. Darryl has assisted us on the ice and during games over the past two years and will now bring his skill set and knowledge to us in the capacity of program Assistant Coach. Darryl’s experience, both at the WHL level and through working with many elite level athletes at Vimy, will provide our students athletes with the additional knowledge and support our program strives to deliver. Darryl will remain in position as an Assistant Principal at Vimy which further strengthens our commitment to an education-based experience, with quality support both on the ice and in the classroom.”

Weinberger’s extensive coaching history includes three seasons as an Assistant Coach with the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings, two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the WHL’s Edmonton Ice and six seasons as Head Coach of the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers Midget AAA team.

“I’m excited to be working with our student-athletes helping them turn their passion into performance both on the ice and in the classroom,” said Weinberger.

Weinberger has been with Vimy Ridge Academy since 2010 and has been the Assistant Principal since 2013. He has also been a Teacher at McNally High School since 1996.

Weinberger graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Physical Education and Recreation Sports Studies, as well as a Education Certificate from the Faculty of Education.
