A pair of Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) U17 Prep teammates in Jaxen Gauchier and Luke Powell have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development agreements with their respective WHL teams.
Gauchier and Powell both joined NAX for the 2022/23 U17 Prep Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) season. The duo would help lead NAX to a U17 Prep CSSHL Western Championship.
In 30 games this season Gauchier would record a team best 58 points, good enough for second in league scoring. The Peavine, AB forward was selected in the seventh round, 140th overall in the 2022 WHL Draft by the Swift Current Broncos.
A fourth-round pick, 75th overall by his hometown Edmonton Oil Kings in the 2022 WHL Draft, Powell recorded 41 points in 32 games with NAX.
