JOB DESCRIPTION

ASSISTANT HOCKEY COACH (Female Prep)

Shawnigan Lake School is looking for an Assistant Coach, Female Prep Hockey, for the upcoming 2019–2020 season. The Assistant Coach works with the team on and off the ice over two terms, from August 26, 2019 to May 1, 2020.

The Assistant Coach is expected to attend all team functions including, but not limited to, practices, games, off-ice training, tournaments/tours, team building activities, team meals, and meetings (team/individual/parent/staff).

There will be on average of 3-4 practices and 1-2 games per week. An average non-traveling week will total between 15-20 hours. Teams travel for events on weekends an average of 5-7 times per season for 1-2 nights. Teams may also travel for 4-5 nights once or twice per season.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to both the Head Coach and the Director of Hockey, the tasks of the Assistant Coach include:

  • Plan and coach hockey practices and games as directed by Head Coach
    • Organize and supervise team activities as instructed by Head Coach
    • Team meals
    • Team/player meetings
    • Video capture and dissemination
  • Aid in communication with players, parents, staff and teachers
    • Monitor academic performance and road trip prep

REQUIREMENTS

  • At minimum, Hockey Canada Development 1 Certification at the time of appointment
  • Respect in Sport and Concussion Awareness Certifications
  • Strong communication and leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team, program, and School staff
  • Strong coaching and/or playing background
  • A commitment to continued professional development, including the completion of HP1 certification, if needed
  • Completion of a criminal record check for persons working with children
