GAME DAY RECAP: October 9, 2023

Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (4) U17 Prep

Preston Peterson (3G) scored twice in the first to match goals from Max Dowse and River Arnason (1G, 1A) as the first ended tied 2-2. Peterson would complete the hat-trick with the lone second period goal before RHA Winnipeg scored three straight goals to open the third period. Verners Veinbergs would score with 12 seconds remaining to bring CDA within one but Chase Charriere (24/28) shut the door the rest of the way. 

Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Red (7) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (5) U17 Prep

Rylan Saunders (3G) recorded a hat-trick and Preston Kelly-Paquet (1G, 3A) and Luke Silvernagle (4A) each tallied four points as RHA Kelowna Red defeated ISA 7-5. Tayvian Delorme (4A), Daine Thomas (3G, 1A) and Rowen Albert (1G, 2A) paced the ISA offence in the win. Kai Ebert (19/24) was in net for RHA Kelowna Red in the win. 

Fairmont Hockey (6) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17 Prep

As a guest team Fairmont finished the weekend a perfect 4-0-0 after defeating OHA Edmonton on Monday. Jack Pettipas (1G, 1A) and Kaden Wilkins (1G, 1A) each scored within the first 3:26 as OHA Edmonton jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. This lead would be short lived as Fairmont would tie the game before the end of the period, scoring six straight goals en route to a 6-3 victory. Jonathan Gomez (2G, 1A) and Owen Parks (2G) each scored twice for Fairmont in the win. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (2) vs Notre Dame (3) U17 Prep

Brodie Steeves and Marcus Domhof (1G, 1A) each scored their first goals of the season as the game was tied nearing the end of the first. But Ethan Hadden would score 44 seconds after Domhof to give Notre Dame a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless second Ryder Gilroy extended the lead 4:53 into the third. Ethan Dimand would score for OHA Black midway through the third to give his team life but Sam Koester (30/32) would shut the door the rest of the way. 

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (0) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep

Piet Mierau (36/36) made 36 saves for his first shutout of the season, keeping his undefeated record of 3-0-0. Jack Adams, Benson Hirst and Aidan McGinty (1G, 1A) scored for Pilot Mound in the victory. Anthony Ganoung (27/30) made 27 saves in the loss. 

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (6) U17 Prep

Kadyn O’Brien (3G, 1A) scored twice and Will Scott added a power play marker as OHA led 3-1 after 40 minutes of play. Tucker Robertson would extend the lead midway through the third but Ethan Naus would score 26 seconds later and Liam Downie would add a short handed goal two minutes later as Shawnigan fought back within one. However, O’Brien would complete the hat-trick and Seth Flett (1G, 1A) would score his second of the season as they each added empty net goals in the final minute of play. 

BWC Academy White (7) vs Notre Dame Red (4) U17 Prep

BWC Academy White opened the game with four straight goals in the first 11:23 of action. But Notre Dame Red would crawl back in with four straight goals of their own, tying the game early in the third. Their comeback effort would go to waste, as BWC Academy White rattled off 3 goals in the final 12 minutes to grab a 7-4 victory. Nic Collins (1G, 2A), Mark Lee (2G, 1A), Dane Svingen-Jones (1G,2A) and Oleksii Zhekov (2G, 1A) led the BWC Academy White offence with three points each. 

South Alberta Hockey Academy (6) vs North Shore Warriors (1) U17 Prep

Eastyn Dimond (1G, 3A) led all skaters with four points, Koen Gauthier (2G) and Ty Wasyluk (2G, 1A) each scored twice, and Steven Wawryk (12/13) made 12 saves as SAHA defeated North Shore 6-1. Noah Friskie scored the lone North Shore goal. David Payne (53/59) was in net for the loss. 

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy Navy (1) vs Prairie Hockey Academy Blue (16) U17 Prep

All but one Prairie Blue skater recorded at least a single point in a 16-1 win over CDA Navy. Cohen Friesen (2G, 2A), Diezyl Hehr (2G, 3A), Fernando Medina (2G, 1A), Chadrick Schulz (2G, 2A) and Asher Watson (2G, 3A) all scored twice in the win. 

Northern Alberta Xtreme White (13) vs North Shore Warriors Orange (1) U17 Prep

Not a single skater on NAX White was left off of the scoresheet on Monday. Gavin Faul (3G) and Reese Hicks (3G) both walked away with hat-tricks while Tafari Chingwaru (3A) chipped in with three helpers. Laurenz Liebhart scored the lone goal for NSW Orange.

BWC Academy Gold (3) vs Edge School Gold (6) U17 Prep

Things would remain close between BWC Academy Gold and Edge Gold in the first 40-minutes. However, Dylan Deets (4G, 1A) would change the game’s directory with three separate markers in the third period, helping close out the victory for Edge School, along with capping off a 5-point night for the Moose Jaw Warriors prospect.

St. George’s School (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme Blue (5) U17 Prep

Mario DeMaria would get the ball rolling for NAX Blue with a powerplay goal. Kyle Dodd (2G) would follow with another shortly after a NAX Blue penalty kill. Harshaan Kaila and Minsuk Hou would claw back for St. George’s with two of their own, but a shorthanded marker from Grady Wedman (1G, 1A) would be the game deciding goal midway through the second.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy White (2) vs OHA Edmonton Black (7) U17 Prep

OHA Edmonton Black would score four unanswered before PCHA White could find themselves on the board. Emmett Jones (2G, 1A) was responsible for a portion of the offence as well as Riley Cumby (1G, 3A). OHA Edmonton Black would also fend off nine PCHA powerplays en route to victory.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy Blue (3) vs Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Black (9) U17 Prep

Kiran Fedun (3G), Benjamin Bowtell (1G, 2A) and Brock Heidecker (1G, 2A) delivered the game changing offence for RHA Kelowna Black on Monday. Sartaj Dhami (47/50) would be the cornerstone behind this victory as the shots were tightly knit 58-50 for RHA Kelowna Black. Ashton Fummerton (22/23) would come in relief for PCHA, only allowing one goal against after being substituted in halfway through the second. 

Prairie Hockey Academy White (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep

Jayden Oleskiw (2G) caps off the long weekend with a crucial two goal effort to edge out PHA White. With 5-seconds on the clock, Logan Barnes would feed Oleskiw on a scramble 2-on-1 down low to secure the ultimate game winning goal. Georgi Milanov (43/46) went 12/12 in the third period, giving PHA White a chance at a comeback. Carter Wingert scored once to break the two goal deficit, but PHA White would come short in the end.

Delta Hockey Academy Black (2) vs Edge School Maroon (9) U17 Prep

Four players on Edge Maroon hit the three point plateau in Monday’s win over Delta Black. Keegan de Sa (3G) led the way with a hat-trick while Luca Dufour (1G, 3A) chipped in for four points of his own. Even Adam Chourchesne (12/14) would walk away with an assist along with the win.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (3) U17 Prep

In the end to a busy weekend in Calgary, CIHA and DHA Green put on a thriller of a show. Mason Moran would score his first goal of the season just 1:42 into the first. DHA Green could strike back with two of their own to close the period. Max Malinousky (1G, 1A) would keep the momentum going early in the second to give DHA Green a two goal advantage. CIHA would crawl back late in the second with goals from Noah Milford and Brendan Rudolph (1G, 1A). Halfway through the third, CIHA’s Lachlan Hanton would break the tie with his 5th goal of the season. Victoria Royals prospect Cole Prelusky (38/41) was in net for the victory.
