GAME DAY RECAP: March 21, 2024

Ulysse Academie (4) vs Mount Academy (1) Eastern U17

In this tightly knit affair to open our Thursday at the Eastern Championships, Ulysse Academie would strike first after Nicolas Beuachamp (1G, 1A) found twine just past the halfway point of the period. Thomas Lefebvre would add to Ulysse’s lead, scoring two minutes into the second. Mount would show some pushback later on and were rewarded with a goal from Sebastien Savoie. However, this jolt of life would be quickly negated as Alexis Boyer would score for Ulysse just over a minute later to restore their two goal advantage. Ulysse would add another in the third, cementing a 4-1 victory at the Complexe JC Perreault. William Ethier (23/24) turned aside 23-shots for the win in goal, coming just shy of the shutout.

Bishop’s College School (6) vs Champions Hockey Academy (1) Eastern U17

Bishop’s College’s offence was clicking, but if it weren’t for a couple of massive Timofey Williams (25/26) saves this could have been an entirely different story. Thanks to Williams, the volatile Champions Hockey Academy didn’t score until the third period, but at that point they were facing an uphill battle, being down 4-1. Bishop’s College would add two more in the final frame, including a shorthanded goal from Logan Charby (1G, 1A) off of a sweet feed from Emanuel Di Paolo (1G, 2A). Bishop’s College improves to 2-0-0 in the round robin with that huge win over CHA.

Ulysse Academie (3) vs Ontario Hockey Academy Prep (5) Eastern U18

Ulysse Academie had the early jump on OHA Prep, scoring 51-seconds into the contest with a valid effort from Emile Dupuis. OHA Prep would strike back in the second, stripping Ulysse of the lead with two late goals thanks to Cole Shepherdson and Takanobu Hiraga. The offence would keep flowing in the third as Marcus Fjeld (2G) potted two more for OHA Prep. Ulysse would add another two but the otherwise steady performance from Oliver Kiraly (16/19) was enough to hold them at bay as OHA Prep went on to secure their first win at the CSSHL Eastern Championships.

Bourget College (4) vs Mount Academy (3) Eastern U18

Mount Academy was up 2-0 early in the second period after Matthew Hebert buried a powerplay goal. Bourget would get their call shortly after, leading to a powerplay marker from Mathys Blanchette (2G). Mount would restore their two goal lead later in the frame but were immediately matched with another strike on the powerplay from Blanchette, securing his second multi-goal game of the postseason. In an emotional third, Bourget would ride the wave of Blanchette’s late goal, scoring off a turnover early in the frame thanks to a snipe from Felipe Miguel Miron. Later in the period, defender Thomas Hudon would wire one past Jason Tremblay (27/31) to give Bourget their first lead of the game, which they would hold on to for the remainder of the match, securing a 2-0-0 record in the round robin.

CIH Academy Green (2) vs Bishop’s College School (11) Eastern U18

Gabriel Le Houillier (2G, 3A) and Leo Adams (4G) flexed their offensive prowess that they showcased so often in the regular season, picking five and four points respectively at the Complexe JC Perreault. It all started with a four goal first and second period, with an extra three in the third. Colin Leeb and Mark Andrew (1G, 1A) would get two on the board for CIH Academy Green in the loss as they fall to 0-2-0 in the round robin.
