Former Delta Defender Commits to Mount Royal

Former Delta Hockey Academy student-athlete Kurtis Smythe has committed to Mount Royal University for the 2023/24 season.

Smythe spent four seasons in the CSSHL with Delta, originally joining the program in 2015/16. That U15 season he would record 14 points in 24 games before adding 1 point in 4 playoff games as Delta captured the 2016 CSSHL U15 Western Championships.

The following U15 Prep season the Cloverdale, BC defender recorded 17 points in 30 games while being selected in the second round, 42nd overall by the Saskatoon Blades at the 2017 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

Smythe would spent the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons with the Delta U18 Prep team tallying 27 points in 65 games.

In 2019/20 Smythe would join the Portland Winterhawks, recording 31 points in 121 WHL games over four seasons with the team. Early in the 2022/23 campaign Smythe would head to the Medicine Hat Tigers, finishing his WHL career with the organization, recording 13 points in 57 games.
