Dowhaniuk, Giannuzzi, Thurston Sign ECHL Contracts

Former Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes Logan Dowhaniuk, Dante Giannuzzi and Trevor Thurston have signed ECHL Contracts.

Dowhaniuk has signed with the Fort Wayne Komets after spending the last five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Originally selected in the second round, 26th overall at the 2017 WHL Draft, Dowhaniuk recorded 22 goals and 79 assists in 248 WHL games split between the Edmonton Oil Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors. The Sherwood Park, AB defender was part of the Oil Kings WHL Championship winning team in 2021/22.

Dowhaniuk spent one season in the CSSHL with the OHA Edmonton U18 Prep team, recording 7 goals and 10 assists in 36 games.

A goaltender from Winnipeg, MB, Giannuzzi spent three seasons in the CSSHL with RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg. Joining the program in 2016/17 with the RHA Winnipeg U15 Prep team, Giannuzzi would also suit up for their U16 Prep and U18 Prep teams. In total he would play 48 games for RHA Winnipeg, earning a 29-14-0 record with 5 shutouts.

Giannuzzi would spend the majority of his junior career with the Portland Winterhawks, the team that drafted him in the fifth round, 99th overall at the 2017 WHL Draft. In 5 WHL seasons Giannuzzi would finish with a 59-32-10 record, 3.07 GAA, .896 SV% and 5 shutouts.

The Utah Grizzlies have signed Giannuzzi for the 2023/24 ECHL season.

Selected in the fourth round, 81st overall by the Kamloops Blazers at the 2017 WHL Draft, Thurston would play 107 WHL games with the Blazers, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Prince Albert Raiders. He would finish the 2022/23 season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Cape Breton Eagles, tallying 21 points in 48 games.

Thurston played four seasons in the CSSHL with Delta Hockey Academy, recording 105 points split between 100 games at the U15, U15 Prep, U16 Prep and U18 Prep levels. Thurston would win a CSSHL U15 Championship in 2015/16.

The North Delta, BC defenseman has signed with the Reading Royals for next season.
