Mozell, Kobelka Reward with Scholarships

Jackson Kobelka and Dexton Mozell have been selected as the recipients of the 2021 Merit AJHL Scholarship as selected by the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and Merit Contractors Association.

The scholarships are awarded annually to one recipient from both the Viterra AJHL North Division and Viterra AJHL South Division.  Eligible applicants must be currently playing in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and prepared to attend a post-secondary institution during the year of application.

This was Kobelka’s first season in the AJHL with the Calgary Canucks, having previously played in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). In 15 AJHL games, the Okotoks, AB forward tallied 2 points.

In 2015/16 Kobelka joined the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with the Edge School U17 Prep team. That would be his lone season in the CSSHL, finishing with 4 goals and 2 assists in 19 games.

Kobelka is commited to Albertus Magnus College, an NCAA Division III program located in New Haven, Connecticut.

Mozell will spend the 2021/22 season with Neumann University. Neumann University is located in Aston, PA and competes in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) conference and at the NCAA Division III level.

A veteran of three years in the AJHL with the Drayton Valley Thunder, Mozell recorded 34 points in 116 AJHL games. Prior to his time in the AJHL, the forward played four seasons with Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA), joining the program in 2014/15 at the U15 level. He would work his way up the levels, playing for their U16 Prep team in 2015/16, and their U18 Prep team from 2016-18. In total he would suit up in 123 games for OHA, tallying 67 points.
