Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (1) U18 Prep
The second day of the U18 Prep showcase in Delta saw a pair of teams that both won big on Friday, with RHA Winnipeg winning 7-3 against Wenatchee, and Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy thumping Notre Dame 5-1. Three periods of Saturday’s game ostensibly saw three different contests unfold; the evenly-fought first period saw CDA escape with a one-goal lead after Keele Deuling scored the only goal, but in the second, they really took over. The middle twenty minutes were CDA’s to own, scoring thrice, and taking a 4-0 lead into the third period, a deficit evidently impossible for RHA Winnipeg to recover from. That’s not to say they didn’t try; the effort was palpable; RHAW outshot CDA 17-6 in the third period, getting a goal back through Caden McLeod, but Sam Trnecka stopped everything else RHAW threw at him. Trnecka ended the game having made 37 stops on 38 shots, leading his team to victory.
Ontario Hockey Academy (3) vs BWC Academy (12) U18 Prep
Ontario Hockey Academy’s visit to the West Coast for the U18 Prep showcase started as good as it could have on Friday, triumphing 6-1 in their first game of the weekend against Shawnigan Lake School, with BWC falling to Edge School in a sort of “clash of the titans” head-to-head to get the showcase started. Any OHA delusion that Saturday would be a battle they could control, similar to their win over SLS, was dispelled early, with Logan Lepinski (1G, 2A) opening the scoring for BWC early. OHA pushed back in the first, but ultimately couldn’t escape the first period in anything better than a two-goal deficit. BWC blew the game open in the second period, and by the time it was over, Dominic Seminoff’s (1G, 3A) four points and Declan Iacoviello’s two goals led BWC to score nine goals through the first two periods. By the time the final buzzer sounded, BWC had pumped the OHO net with 60 shots on goal, scoring 12 goals in the victory.
Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (10) U18 Prep
Any hope that the Wenatchee Wild’s U18 Prep squad could bounce back from their Friday loss to earn a result out of their second game in Delta this weekend was killed quickly by Pilot Mound Hockey Academy and an offence that pumped the Wenatchee net with 28 shots in the first period alone. Collin Friedrich scored twice, and after the 3-0 lead through one, the goals would keep coming for PMHA. Knox Burton got in on the fun with three goals and four points in the final forty minutes, with four-point performances also coming from PMHA’s Carsten Campbell (1G, 3A), Casey Silverman (1G, 3A), and Cole Landreville (1G, 3A). Pilot Mound didn’t continue the shots on goal pace through twenty minutes, but the goals continued to flow, eventually scoring double-digits in the win.
Shawnigan Lake School (1) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep
Shawnigan Lake School’s three straight wins heading into the weekend were knocked out of relevance by Ontario Hockey Academy, arriving with a big win over SLS on Friday, now with Saturday’s game against Prairie Hockey Academy an opportunity to turn their showcase weekend around. PHA defeated the North Shore Warriors in overtime on Friday to start their weekend on a positive note, which they’d continue into the early stages of Saturday’s game, scoring early through Seamus Dillon to take a 1-0 lead into the second. Prairie struggled for offence from there and eventually found themselves pegged back. Phoenix Hinks tied the game in the second for Shawnigan, but much in the same manner as the first and third periods, the second would have only a solitary goal. Tied 1-1, the only goal of the third period came from Kane Domres, who held on for himself on a two-on-one before scoring past the goaltender’s blocker to give Prairie the crucial 2-1 lead they wouldn’t cease their hold on, winning 2-1.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) U15
The first of back-to-back games between the U15 squads of the Northern Alberta Xtreme and RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg took place Friday at the RINK Training Centre in Winnipeg, with RHAW winning big, taking a 7-3 victory from NAX. Saturday’s game looked to be headed in the same direction, with a pair of RHAW goals within the first nine minutes of the game seemingly the foundation to build another victory upon. Evidently, that was only one piece in the story of the game, and it was a piece nullified by NAX in a 35-second span later in the first. A beautiful goal from Yukon Kim (2G, 2A) preceded Kendon Peacock’s goal to tie the game, and two more in the second opened up a 4-2 NAX lead. Nash Smook’s second for RHAW cut the lead in half heading into the third period of play, and an absolutely disastrous mistake from Jace Hilliard (30/35) in the NAX net led RHAW to a gift of an equalizer. Determined to avenge yesterday’s heavy defeat, NAX responded quickly, with Mason Zimmer’s (2G, 2A) second goal of the game reestablishing the Northern Alberta lead. Myer Hipkins (1G, 1A) made it 6-4 later in the third, a goal made to be the game-winner after RHAW had managed to cut the lead down. Up by one, NAX survived the late push, with Hilliard making amends for the earlier mistake by shutting the door and helping NAX to the. 6-5 win.
Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep
All of the games played by Calgary International Hockey Academy in the U15 Prep division this season have had the same thing in common: they’ve been extremely high scoring. That’s been the case all weekend, starting with a 5-4 win over RHAW before Friday’s 8-4 victory over the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy. PMHA and CIHA played the second half of their head-to-head on Saturday, with CIHA absolutely dominating proceedings throughout. The shots on goal in CIHA’s favour ended 56-17, with Eric Sexton (2G, 1A) and Liam Nycholat leading the way with a pair of goals apiece, and while PMHA would get some pucks into the back of the net themselves, any effort at a comeback was stifled by another offensive response from the CIHA side. During a weekend dominated by the action in other divisions, CIHA’s seven goals on 56 shots marked the U15 Prep division’s only game of Saturday with an excellent offensive performance.
Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (5) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) U17
The first of back-to-back U17 games between Pacific Coast Hockey Academy and RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna this weekend ended in a Friday night victory for RHAK, who kept PCHA at bay throughout the game. Pacific Coast scored a second-period power-play goal in that one, but weren’t successful at turning another puck past Griffin Prairie Chicken in the RHAK net. Through twenty minutes, RHAK led by 1-0, with a goal from Nixon Szadkowski (2G) pulling PCHA back to 1-1 late in the second period. Late in the second period, Hudson Elke (1G, 1A) scored a beautiful goal on the power play to give PCHA their first lead of the series heading into the third period. RHAK provided another twist in the tale in the third period with a pair of quick-fire goals of their own to take the lead, before PCHA tied the game, sending the contest into the final ten minutes all tied up at 3. The stage was set for a hero, and it was PCHA who benefited from said heroics, with Maximus Scheffer (1G, 1A) arriving in the crease to score off a rebound from a Hudson Elke opportunity. The goal gave PCHA the lead, one they’d solidify with an empty net goal, winning 5-3 after scoring the last three goals of the third period.
Fort Erie International Academy (2) vs Bourget College (14) East U17 Prep
Bourget College did something that is rarely seen in a single sixty-minute game of hockey against Fort Erie International Academy; send upwards of 70 shots on the opposition’s goal. As could be expected with that statistic established, Bourget made good on their offensive prowess by scoring 14 goals over the course of the game, winning 14-2. Jayden Osborne (3G, 2A) and Liam Dubreuil scored a hat-trick each for Bourget, and with the hosts prevailing by 12 goals, their skaters earned a combined 36 points between them.
STAR Hockey Academy (5) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep
STAR Hockey Academy dominated the bulk of the game in their clash with the Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy in the U17 Prep division on Saturday; they peppered the Wild’s goal with 63 shots in all during the game. This would lead you to think they had themselves a cakewalk throughout. Wenatchee taking 22 minutes in penalties, 20 in the first half of the game alone, didn’t help, but the Wild kept fighting. Through three quarters of the second period, though, it seemed their fight would be in vain; STAR had a 3-0 lead and looked in control. However, STAR had some complacency exposed. In the span of a mere 15 seconds, Wenatchee snatched up a pair of quick-fire goals, suddenly making the contest a one-goal game. They’d have the momentum into the third period, hitting the net with 17 shots, but ultimately, STAR prevailed, and a crucial goal from Hunter Hoggan in the third extended the lead to 4-2. That gave STAR the breathing room necessary to protect the lead with marginally less stress, and Brody Lukinbill (1G, 1A) hit the empty net to seal STAR’s victory.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (1) U18 Prep
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna have very quickly established themselves as one of the best in the U18 Prep division, starting red-hot with four straight victories to start the season. Calgary International Hockey Academy had lost one of their three coming in, and struck the first blow in the game through Calum Giese to lead 1-0. Ryan Sadovia (2G, 1A) tied things up going into the second period, and while most of that second period remained a scoreless stalemate, a two-minute stretch late in the period saw RHAK’s special teams shine through. First, Rhett Tubello cashed in on the power play to give RINK Kelowna their first lead of the game, but following that, RHAK took a penalty, and their PK went to work. Not only did they successfully kill the penalty, they struck shorthanded, with Carson Smith cashing in on a shorthanded rush to double the advantage. All RHAK needed to do was shut the door, successfully doing so from there, and adding an empty net goal to win 4-1.
OHA Edmonton (5/OT) vs Yale Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep
After a poor first period yesterday that saw OHA Edmonton give up five goals to RHA Kelowna, Clark Scheider (2G) ensured the story would be different today, scoring 4:52 into the game. Yale would reply with goals from Holden Sexsmith and Gunho Choi 1:05 apart to take the lead midway through the period. OHA Edmonton then flipped the script as Miles Hartmann (2G) and AJ Tarnowski (1G, 1A) scored 1:19 apart late in the period to give their team a lead. After a scoreless second period a Tanner Massey (2G) power play marker evened the score 3:44 into the third. Schneider would put OHA Edmonton ahead 2:17 later before Massey forced overtime with his second of the game with 4:03 remaining. Yale would start OT on the power play but OHA Edmonton killed off the penalty before both teams traded chances. Both Cam Hoose ((36/40) and Parker Kulmatycki (38/43) would make big saves in overtime as it looked like the game was headed to a shootout. However, a Bronsyn Mouille shot would go off the post with the rebound landing on Hartmann’s stick, who made no mistake burying the puck into the empty cage to give OHA Edmonton the 5-4 win.
Edge School (2) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (4) Female U18 Prep
It took Avaya McCann just 10 seconds to open the scoring for Edge as she found the back of the net for the third time this season. Edge would regain the lead in the final minute of the period as Mika Higgins scored her second of the year. Hallie Parada would score the lone second period goal to even the scoring heading into the third period. The two teams were deadlocked at 2-2 late into the game when Maria Facca (1G, 2A) put SAHA ahead with another power play goal, this time with 3:22 remaining. Sara Murdoch doubled the lead 1:03 later and Phoenix Buckler (25/27) stopped 14 shots in the final 40 to give SAHA the 4-2 win. Alexis Ehrman (47/51) faced 51 shots in the loss.

Ayden Stuckless (3G) would finally break through for OHA Edmonton and a Finn Sample (1G, 1A) goal 55 seconds later saw their team hold a 2-0 advantage heading into the final period. Stuckless added his second of the game, and third of the season, 1:39 into the period as OHA Edmonton grabbed a 3-0 lead. Ebenezer Shaganya would get RHA Winnipeg on the board 1:02 later but that was as close as they would come as Nolan Ryan scored his second of the season and Stuckless completed the hat-trick with 2:47 remaining.

In the second, Rylan Saunders and Ramage traded goals as Pilot Mound continued to hold the advantage heading into the third. Adam Zamecnik doubled the lead 8:40 into the second but Edge wouldn’t go away quietly as Evan Lynch replied 2:01 later with his sixth of the season. However, Christian Caby (1G, 1A) scored his first goal of the season late in the period to secure the Pilot Mound win. Yuki Kido (26/29) made 26 saves to record the win.

In the third Soren Hayden (1G, 1A) added an empty net, shorthanded goal before Ivey Vermeulen added a power play marker to give Prairie the convincing 6-1 win. Jaxson Bartsch (1G, 1A) and Camden Masterson (1G, 1A) would trade goals to close out the period. Preston Dalebout briefly tied the game 3:35 into the third before Bengert completed the hat-trick with a power play marker. Maxx Trites (1G, 1A) would double the lead midway through the period as OHA looked to pull away. But Payne would respond 28 seconds later and Knox Vogel (1G, 1A) would tie the game with 5:52 left to force overtime. Neither team would score in overtime and it would take until the fourth round of the shootout for CDA to come out on top as Dalebout beat Tyson Kuiack (17/22) for the win. Liam Rogers (44/49) made 44 saves to backstop CDA to victory.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) vs STAR Hockey Academy (0) U17
