Delta Teammates Sign WHL SPAs

Four Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep teammates have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreements (SPA) after being selected in the first round of the 2021 WHL Draft on December 9.

Jordan Gavin was selected second overall by the Tri-City Americans. The Surrey, BC forward is in his third season in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL), having previously played for St. George’s School U15 Prep and Delta’s U15 Prep teams. In 14 games this season Gavin has scored 24 goals and added 34 assists, sitting third in league scoring with 58 points.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes selected forward Miguel Marques with the tenth pick in the draft. Marques currently leads the U17 Prep division in goals (27), assists (37) and points (64). The Prince George, BC native has already suited up for Lethbridge, playing for the team just one day after they selected him. Marques spent the 2020/21 season with Gavin on the St. George’s U15 Prep team.

Surrey, BC native Tomas Mrsic was selected by the Medicine Hat Tigers eighth overall. In 16 games this season he has tallied a league best 27 goals along 31 assists, giving him 58 points. In 2020/21the forward had 12 points in 6 U15 Prep games for BWC Academy. The previous year he had 21 points in 30 U15 Prep games playing for Delta green.

Colton Roberts was selected 11th overall, just one pick after Marques, by the Vancouver Giants. The Ridge Meadows, BC defenseman is in his first season with Delta, having previously played for BWC Academy during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. In 26 games this year Roberts has scored 5 times and added 21 assists. In his previous 24 CSSHL games he tallied 25 points
