CSSHL student athletes selected at USHL Draft

Headlined by first round selection Rieger Lorenz, a total of six Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student athletes were selected at the 2020 United States Hockey League (USHL) Phase One Draft.

Lorenz was chosen in the first round, 14th overall, by the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Edge School student athlete was named the 2020 CSSHL U18 Prep Division Top Freshman after posting 72 points (37-35-72) in 35 games.

Bowden Singleton of the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) U18 Prep team was selected in the fourth round, 54th overall, by the Green Bay Gamblers. The Calgary, Alta. product registered 53 points (20-33-53) in 24 games with the NAX U18 Prep team this past season.

Two selections later, the Omaha Lancers took Rink Hockey Academy (RHA) student athlete Daimon Gardner, who is coming off a 59-point (34-25-59) season with their U16 Prep team, while also being named the 2020 CSSHL U16 Prep Division MVP.

Jaren Brinson of the Edge School was selected in the fifth round, 68th overall, by the Lincoln Stars. The Airdrie, Alta. product posted 34 points (8-26-34) in 32 games with the Edge U18 Prep team last season.

A pair of St. George’s School student athletes rounded out the day for the CSSHL at the 2020 USHL Phase One Draft.

Cameron Johnson, who led the 2019-20 CSSHL U16 Prep Division in scoring with 78 points (29-49-78) in 33 games, was picked in the fifth round, 75th overall, by the Chicago Steel.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks selected St. George’s U18 Prep forward Connor Levis with the 82nd overall selection. Levis posted 26 points (12-14-26) in 33 games this past season.

The USHL Draft takes place during the first week of May each year and is completed in two “Phases”.

Phase I of the Draft is ten rounds of “Futures” age players only, which are U-17 players for next year’s season (2004 birth year players only for the 2020 Draft).

Phase II of the Draft will take place the following day beginning with round one. This draft is open to players of all ages eligible to play junior hockey and are not currently protected by another USHL team.
