What are some of the things your program does to provide educational support?

“We have a structured academic environment with a renowned pedagogy and support structure, with a mandatory daily study period after school, including SAT preparatory instruction.”

How are courses and the graduation path for student athletes chosen?

“Courses are chosen with guidance counsellors and academic advisors, taking into account their direction of study, NCAA eligibility requirements and more.”

Do you offer a billeting program or a dormitory for non-local student athletes?

“We have residence on campus with live-in dorm parents. Student’s who require seven-day accommodations will stay with a carefully vetted billet family on weekends they are not away for hockey.”

What kind of life skills to the student athletes learn by living in the dorms?

“Campus life activities are constantly organized. Living away from home teaches many of the life skills that one requires to mature into a young man. You are required to make decisions, remain organized, adapt and be accountable.”

How are injuries and sick student athletes monitored?

“We have a thorough process that starts with baseline testing and assessments at the start of the season, and we work with a team of respected therapists and doctors. We work in a timely manner and have constant communication with student athletes, parents, along with school and hockey staff. We have access to a conditioning centre, gymnasium, pool, infirmary, and treatment centres”

What does the daily schedule look like for a Westlake Bourget College student athlete?

“We have a hockey block in the morning, followed by school from 11am-4pm. We then have another hockey block, followed by dinner and then a study hall.”

How many games can your teams expect to play?

“Our teams can expect to play 50-60 games every season, which includes the CSSHL regular season and Championships, our USA league’s regular season and playoffs, exhibition games, and tournaments.”

What does the on and off ice training look like?

“Depending on the time of the year, we have constant focus on growing each individual. Individual testing, evaluation and assessments occur three times per year. We are a development first program and all decisions are made with the best interests of our student athletes in-mind. Everyone wants to win, but we are NOT a win-at-all-costs program.”
