Chiefs sign first-rounder Thornton

The Spokane Chiefs have signed Canadian Sport School Hockey League student athlete Ben Thornton to a standard Western Hockey League (WHL) Player Agreement.

Thornton, 15, has attended the Yale Hockey Academy the past two seasons, registering 58 points (17-41-58) in 58 games with their Bantam Prep team, including 45 points (13-32-45) in 30 games in 2018-19.

The Abbotsford, B.C. product recorded four points (1-3-4) in five games at the 2019 BDO CSSHL Championships, helping his team capture the 2019 CSSHL Bantam Prep Division Championship;

Thornton was selected by the Chiefs in the first round, 15th overall, at the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
