Blackhawks Sign Luypen

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed former Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athlete Jalen Luypen to a National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Level Contract.

Luypen spent two seasons in the CSSHL with Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA). The Kelowna, BC forward joined the program in 2016/17, leading the OHA U15 Prep team with 21 goals and 17 assists in 30 games. The following season he would once again record team highs in goals (18), assists (18) and points (36) in 36 U18 Prep games.

Following the 2016/17 campaign the Edmonton Oil Kings would select Luypen in the ninth round, 180th overall at the 2017 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft. Luypen would join the team in 2018/19, recording 124 points in 200 WHL games over the last four seasons, while adding 9 points in 19 playoff games this year as the Oil Kings captured a WHL Championship. Luypen would also tally a goal and two assists at this year’s Memorial Cup.

The Blackhawks drafted Luypen in the seventh round, 216th overall at the 2021 NHL Draft.
