Rebels Hire Egener

The Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Red Deer Rebels have hired Okanagan Hockey Academy’s (OHA) Mike Egener as an assistant coach for the 2021/22 season.

Egener joined the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) in 2017 and is now in his fourth season with OHA as head coach of the U15 team, after previously spending time as an assistant coach in Calgary, AB with Mount Royal University.

Prior to starting his coaching career, Egener played 224 WHL games over 4 seasons with the Calgary Hitmen. In 2003 the Tampa Bay Lightning selected Egener in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft. He would go on to play 11 seasons of professional hockey in North America, Sweden, Denmark, and England.
