Nighthawks Add Six CSSHL Student-Athletes

The Niverville Nighthawks have added six Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes ahead of the 2023/24 Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) season.

A defenseman from Yellowknife, NT, Alex Cordero joined St. George’s School for the 2018/19 season. In 23 U15 games he would tally 12 goals and 8 assists. In 2018/19 he would suit up for the St. George’s U15 Prep team, recording 5 goals and 14 assists in 29 games. 2020/21 would see Cordero tally two points in four U17 Prep games. Cordero has spent the last two seasons with the St. George’s U18 Prep team, recording 5 goals and 20 assists in 69 games.

Matty Healey joined Prairie Hockey Academy for the 2020/21 U16 Prep season. In six games he would finish second in team scoring with seven points. The Warman, SK forward would return to Prairie in 2022/23 for the U18 Prep team. In 31 games Healey would record 13 goals and 15 assists.

Avery Laliberte spent the 2022/23 CSSHL season with the RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U18 Prep team. The Lorette, MB product would lead all RHA Winnipeg defensemen with 8 goals, 22 assists and 30 points in 34 games. His 22 assists were third most among all RHA Winnipeg skaters while his 30 points were fourth on the team and among all CSSHL U18 Prep skaters.

A forward from Okotoks, AB, Caleb Lepitre spent the last two seasons with the Prairie U18 Prep team. In 54 career games he would score 13 goals and assists on 21 more. In seven playoff games over two seasons he would score two goals and add one assist.

Luke McCrady spent five seasons in the CSSHL, primarily with Edge School. The Calgary, AB defender would play 30 U15 games in 2018/19, recording 9 points. The following U15 Prep season he would tally 8 points in 22 games for Edge. At the conclusion of the season the Edmonton Oil Kings would draft McCrady in the sixth round, 130th overall at the 2020 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft. 2020/21 would see McCrady play five U16 Prep game, finishing with two assists. In 2021/22 McCrady would join the South Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) U18 Prep team, scoring 2 goals and assisting 10 more in 33 games. This season McCrady returned to Edge School to help the team capture the 2023 CSSHL U18 Prep Western Championship. In 33 games he would record 5 goals and 11 assists.

A defenseman from Mill Bay, BC, Wyatt Taron has spent the last two CSSHL seasons with Shawnigan Lake School. During the 2021/22 U17 Prep season he would record 4 goals and 17 assists in 31 games. He would add six assists in three playoff games at the 2022 CSSHL Western Championships. This season Taron would finish with 2 goals and 5 assists in 30 regular season games. He would assist on four goals in three playoff games at the 2023 CSSHL Western Championships.
