GAME DAY RECAP: January 11-12, 2023

Notre Dame (3) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4/SO) U17 Prep

Avery Johnson (1G, 1A) would open the scoring on the powerplay just 1:33 into the game and Austin Wentz (2G) would score his 8th of the season as PHA jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Riley Mitchell would get Notre Dame on the board with 22 seconds remaining in the period to close the gap to one. Wentz would score early in the second to restore the two goal advantage but Notre Dame would claw back with Lucas Hillier-Huot and Talon Langston scoring second period goals of their own. After a scoreless third and overtime, it would take a fifth round shootout goal from Cole King to give Prairie the 4-3 win. 

Champions Hockey Academy U16 Prep (2) vs Mount Academy U16 (4) Eastern U17

Zackarie Michaud opened the scoring for Champions Hockey but Alex Levesques (1G, 1A), Derek Andrews (2G) and Jeremy Gould would score three unanswered for Mount Academy to close out the first. After a scoreless second, Andrews would extend the lead midway through the third. Will Carroll would score a powerplay marker late in the third but it wasn’t enough as Mount held on for a 4-2 win. 

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy U18 (2) vs St. Mary’s Academy (6) U18 Female U18 Prep

St. Mary’s outshot PMHA 46-14 in a 6-2 win Thursday morning. Charlotte Buffie (2G, 1A) led the way offensively with three points while Julia Bilous (2A), Mia Faseruk (2A), Maddie Kaiser (2A) and Letta Mattheos (2A) all added two assists. Gracie Page and Carys Wytinck scored for Pilot Mound in the loss. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy U17 (0) vs RHA Winnipeg U18 (4) Female U18 Prep

Inhye Jang (20/20) made 20 saves for the shutout while Ravis Constant-Kuba, Addison Dyck, Kate Nechwediuk and Breigh Rank all scored for RHA Winnipeg in a 4-0 win. Jorja Moore (34/37) stopped 34 shots in the loss. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy U18 (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 (4)Female U18 Prep

Megan Dolynchuk opened the scoring for OHA before Molly Hamilton (1G, 2A) and Kasey Ditner each scored second period goals as NAX grabbed a 2-1 lead. Kismet Dogan would tie the game late in the second with a powerplay tally. Paige Ring and Reanna Loberg scored third period goals for NAX as they skated to a 4-2 victory. 

South Alberta Hockey Academy U18 (0) vs RHA Kelowna U18 (9) Female U18 Prep

Chloe Primerano (2G, 1A) and Keara Paker (1G, 2A), led all skaters with three points while Hailey Armstrong (2G) scored two goals of her own. Mikayla Blomquist (2A), Carmen Bray (2A), and Maddie Leaney (2A) all tallied two assists in the win. 

Delta Hockey Academy U17 (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School U18 (5) Female U18 Prep

Delta U17 outshot Shawnigan 43-17 but a 40 save performance from Alex Nelson (40/43) gave Shawnigan a 5-3 win. Tied at 2-2 heading into the third, Anya Porter (2G, 1A), Mikayla Boarder (1G, 1A), and Gracie Szadkowski scored three straight for Shawnigan. Saya Earl (1G, 1A) would get one back for Delta U17 late in the third with her first of the season, but it wasn’t enough as Shawnigan held on for the victory. 

Edge School U18 (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy U18 (5) Female U18 Prep

Delta U18 held a 2-1 lead after 20 thanks to goals from Molly Cole (2G) and Sarah Webster. A second period goal from Cole would extend the advantage heading into the third, and two more goals from Jaylyn Morris and Vanessa Schaefer (1G, 1A) early in the final period would extend the deficit to 5-1. Edge attempted to mount a comeback as Shannon Pearson (1G, 1A) scored once and Jayda Becker (2G) twice but they were unable to find the tying goal in the dying minutes.
