Schols Named Assistant Coach with Ottawa in PWHL

Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) Female U18 Prep head coach Cassea Schols has been named an assistant coach for the newly formed Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) team based out of Ottawa.

Schols has spent the last seven seasons coaching in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), Edge School, and OHA. During the 2019/20 season she would coach alongside Carla MacLeod, the first head coach in Ottawa’s franchise history, helping Edge School capture the 2020 CSSHL Female Prep Western Championship.

The Edmonton, AB coach has also captured two bronze medals at the World Championships with Czechia, completing this feat in 2021/22 and 2022/23.

Founded in August 2023, the Professional Women’s Hockey League is a professional ice hockey league in North America comprising three teams in Canada (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto) and three teams in the United States (Boston, Minnesota, New York). The 2024 season will see the teams play 24 games from January until the end of May.
