Wheat Kings Sign Three

The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed a trio of Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes to Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreements.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg student-athletes Carson Bjarnason and Evan Groening and Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) defenseman Eastyn Mannix all signed with the Wheat Kings during the teams 2021 Training Camp.

An undrafted product, Bjarnason joined RINK Winnipeg’s U16 Prep team for the 2020/21 season. The Carberry, MB netminder posted 2.01 goals against average and 0.914 save percentage in two CSSHL games.

Groening has spent the past two seasons with RINK Winnipeg, joining the program at the U15 Prep level. He would spend the 2020/21 season with their U16 Prep team, tallying 22 points in 32 CSSHL games the last two seasons. The Niverville, MB forward was selected in the ninth round, 177th overall by the Wheat Kings in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

Selected in the fourth round, 79th overall by the Wheat Kings in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft, Mannix is now in his third season with NAX. The Wainwright, AB defenseman would finish with 15 points in 30 U15 Prep games in 2019/20, and would tally 1 point in 3 U16 Prep games the following season.
