The January CSSHL Female Alumna Player of the Month is former Edge School and RHA Kelowna student-athlete Makayla Watson.
A defenseman from Calgary, AB, Watson played 10 games in January and tallied 5 assists and 4 goals including a hat-trick on January 23. Now in her second NCAA season with Quinnipiac University, Watson has 6 goals and 18 assists this year, giving her 40 points in 68 career NCAA games. Watson was named to the NCAA ECAC All-Rookie Team in 2025/25.
Watson initially joined the CSSHL for the 2021/22 season with Edge School, posting 14 points in 26 games while being named the CSSHL Female U18 Prep Top Freshman Award Winner (co-winner). The following season she tallied 23 points in 29 games with Edge.
In 2023/24 she would join RHA Kelowna recording 51 points in 29 games and 3 points in 4 playoff games to help her team capture the 2024 CSSHL Female U18 Prep Western Championship. That season she would represent Team Canada U18, winning a bronze medal, recording three points in six games.
