Student Athlete Code of Conduct

The CSSHL strives “To be National Leaders in Education-Based Hockey”. Whether student athletes continue their hockey careers, enter post-secondary school or the workforce after their time in the CSSHL our goal is to have them become positive contributing members of society ready to enter the next stage of their lives. Below is the CSSHL Code of Conduct that must be signed by all student athletes. This Code of Conduct is in addition to any CSSHL bylaws/minimum standards/policies that are in place.

AS A STUDENT ATHLETE I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO:
1. Hold myself to the highest levels of professional integrity, honesty, accountability and respect.
2. Treat others, including opponents, officials, teammates and team staff with due respect, both in victory and defeat.
3. Uphold the rules of the sport and the spirit of such rules and actively encourage fellow student athletes to do the same.
4. Acknowledge the CSSHL is a diverse and inclusive organization in which staff, student athletes, officials, medical staff and volunteers associated with the CSSHL and their member Clubs will feel respected, valued and welcomed, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, education, sexual orientation, religion, marital status or disability.
5. Abide by the CSSHL’s Abuse, Bullying and Harassment Policy.
6. Consistently display high personal standards and project a favorable image.
a. Refrain from/discourage public criticism of coaches, student athletes, officials, medical staff, billets, program/league staff and volunteers.
b. Abstain from/discourage the use of tobacco, drugs, steroids or vaping products.
c. Abstain from/discourage the drinking alcoholic beverages.
d. Refrain from/discourage the use of racial, derogatory, profane, insulting, harassing or offensive language.
e. Refrain from/discourage any abuse, bullying, harassment or hazing of any individual.
f. Abstain from/discourage requests to participate in or give into invitations for sexual favours.
7. Communicate and cooperate with registered medical practitioners in the diagnoses, treatment and management of medical problems and respect the concerns these medical personnel have when they are considering the future health and well-being of myself when making decisions regarding the ability to continue to perform or train.
8. Report any ongoing police investigations, criminal charges or sport discipline investigations or complaints or criminal charges against myself to the management of my program.

I have read and understand the above statements and agree to conduct myself in a manner that demonstrates the standards established in the CSSHL Student Athlete Code of Conduct. I also understand that failure to follow the above statements or disclose appropriate information may lead to discipline, suspension or removal from my program and the CSSHL.
