St. George’s School announces coaching staff

St. George’s School Head of Hockey Todd Harkins today announced the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season.

Jason Becker has been named the Head Coach of their Midget Prep team. Becker joins St. George’s School after spending the past three seasons as an Assistant Coach with the BCHL’s Penticton Vees.

“This is a very exciting opportunity with St. George’s now having a team in the Midget Prep Division of the CSSHL,” said Becker. “I’m looking forward to working with these elite student athletes. In my time with the Penticton Vees, I learned a lot from Fred Harbinson in developing and preparing student athletes to move to the next level. My goal is to develop and prepare the student athletes of St. George’s so that their next step in their hockey career is a small one and not a giant leap.”

Becker was an Assistant Coach with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars from 2009-2014 and was an Assistant Coach with Team BC at the 2019 Canada Winter Games. He will be joined on the bench by Assistant Coach Naeem Bardai.

Jamie Jackson has been named the Head Coach of their Elite 15 team. Jackson joins St. George’s School after spending the 2018-19 season as an Assistant Coach with the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to work with Todd and his team of coaches,” said Jackson. “After a few discussions and tours around the school and hockey facilities, I believe the St. George’s hockey program can become a world-class program. Todd drew a very detailed picture of his vision for the St. George’s hockey program.  It became clear to me that I had to be a part of what is happening in the next few years at St. George’s. Now, at this stage, I’m looking forward to meeting the students and families, then pulling on some work boots to build something special.”

Jackson previously was the Head Coach of the BCMML’s Vancouver NE Chiefs from 2014-2018 and the General Manager and Head Coach of the PJHL’s Port Moody Panthers from 2011-2014. He will be joined on the bench by Assistant Coach Mike Nardi.

Todd Harkins will assume the role as Head Coach of the Bantam Prep team. Harkins was with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars franchise from 2012-2018 in various roles including General Manager for four seasons.

“We are excited about the family of coaches that we have assembled to continue building the St. George’s hockey program into one of the premier sport school hockey programs in North America,” said Harkins. “Each coach comes with an abundance of experience and knowledge to allow each individual player the opportunity to learn the game at the bantam and midget level to fulfill their needs now and into the future of the game.  Our vast network of experts at the junior, NCAA and pro level will help facilitate each player’s growth and development beyond St. George’s School.”

Harkins will be joined on the bench by Assistant Coach Nicklas Harkins.

Stan Sibert will return as Head Coach of the Bantam Varsity team. He will be joined on the bench by Assistant Coach Cole Todd.

“I am very excited about coming back to coach at St. George’s to help with the growth of the hockey program and continue teaching these young players the necessary skills to be successful on and off the ice,” said Sibert.
