Savoie Signs ELC with Oilers

Carter Savoie has signed a National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Level Contract (ELC) with the Edmonton Oilers after they selected the St. Albert, AB forward in the fourth round, 100th overall at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Savoie spent the 2017/18 season in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), finishing fifth in the U16 Prep division in scoring with 58 points in 34 games. Selected in the ninth round, 198th overall in the 2017 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft by the Regina Pats, Savoie would add an additional eight points in five CSSHL playoff games, helping NAX capture the CSSHL U16 Prep Western Championship.

He would make the jump to the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) the following season with the Sherwood Park Crusaders, finishing with a team best 42 assists and 73 points in 58 games, good enough for fifth in league scoring. His impressive season would be capped with AJHL (North) All-Rookie Team, AJHL (North) All-Star Team, AJHL Rookie of the Year and Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Top Rookie honours.

Savoie would return to the Crusaders for the 2019/20 season, leading the AJHL with 53 goals in 54 games, while his 99 points were second in the AJHL to teammate Arjun Atwal. Savoie would once again be named to the AJHL (North) All-Star Team as he helped the Crusaders to an AJHL best 98 regular season points. The Oilers would select Savoie in the NHL Entry Draft at the conclusion of this season.

In 2020/21 Savoie would join the University of Denver for the NCAA season. In 24 games he would score 13 goals and 7 assists, while earning NCAA (NCHC) All-Rookie Team honours.

2021/22 would be a historic season for Savoie as he would finish with second on his team in scoring 45 points in 39 games, including a team best 23 goals, as Denver would go on to be crowned NCAA Division I Champions.

Following the conclusion of his NCAA season, Savoie would sign an Amateur Tryout-Out Agreement (ATO) with the Oilers American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Savoie would play two games for the Condors before signing his NHL Contract, effectively ending his 2021/22 season.
