Rob Holoien hired as Prairie Hockey Academy’s U16 Prep Head Coach

Prairie Hockey Academy, Saskatchewan’s first Hockey Canada Accredited School is pleased to announce the signing of Rob Holoien as the U16 Prep Head Coach. Rob is originally from Melfort, SK and grew up playing hockey in SK. He comes to us with a wealth of JR hockey experience, not only as a player, but also as a coach. Most recently, Rob was the assistant coach of Brayden Klimosko and the Battlefords North Stars for three seasons, helping them win the 2019 SJHL Championship.

“Rob Holoien is a tremendous coach. He is a stand-up guy, with a passion, intensity and true love for the game. Rob’s on and off ice views align perfectly with PHA’s, he is not only driven to develop young athletes into better hockey players but more importantly better people. PHA found a perfect fit, a true leader with a strong faith!”– Bradyen Klimosko, Head Coach, Battlefords North Stars

Holoien joined the North Stars partway through December of 2018. The team posted a 35-13-5-5 record that season and hoisted the Canalta Cup in the spring with a 12-2-2 playoff record. In 2019-20, Battlefords led the SJHL with a 45-11-2-0 record. The North Stars were up 3-1 on Nipawin in the first round when COVID-19 halted the SJHL postseason. This winter Battlefords was 0-3-0-0 before the season was paused and eventually cancelled.

“I am excited to add Rob to our team at PHA, not only for the coaching experience he brings, but because of the character he possesses. From the moment I met Rob, I could tell that he loved the game of hockey, but the way he treated his players and spoke of the relationships with them, I knew he would be a great fit here. – Prairie Hockey Academy President, Justin Simpkins

Rob joined the Prairie Hockey Academy last week, just in time for the grand unveiling of the new Champions Hall. He will be on ice with the teams for the remainder of the 2021/22 season, while also working to build the U16 Prep roster for next year.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a special organization. I love coaching and I’m excited to be able to do it at Prairie Hockey Academy, where everyone is so passionate about developing the human first and hockey player second. I can’t wait to get started and I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink.” – Rob Holoien, Head Coach, Prairie Hockey Academy U16 Prep
