Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athlete Chloe Primerano made Canadian Hockey League (CHL) history last month when the Vancouver Giants selected her in the 13th round, 267th overall at the 2022 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.
Primerano became the first female skater ever selected in a CHL Prospects Draft on May 19, 2022.
“I think from the beginning of the year when she came out of U15 and made the U15 Prep team the ultimate goal for her was to play Prep hockey and get drafted,” said BWC Academy Director of Hockey and U15 Prep Associate Coach Richard Matvichuk. “Throughout the season and in tournaments she just kept getting better and opening more eyes.”
The North Vancouver, BC defenseman has spent the last two seasons playing in the CSSHL for BWC Academy. During the 2020/21 season Primerano finished with two goals and six assists in eight U15 games, leading all BWC Academy U15 defensemen in points.
Primerano would build off those numbers in 2021/22, finishing second among all BWC Academy U15 Prep defenseman with 19 points in 30 games while taking just one minor penalty.
“She’s an all-around player. We used her on the powerplay, we used her on the penalty kill. She moves the puck really well but the biggest thing about her is her competitive edge with blocking shots, playing physical, playing the body. She was willing to do anything to make sure our team succeeded,” added Matvichuk.
