Former OHA Edmonton student-athlete Owen Pederson has signed a two-year American Hockey League (AHL) contract with the Providence Bruins for the start of the 2023/24 season.
Pederson spent three seasons in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) with OHA Edmonton, joining the program in 2016/17. That season the Stony Plain, AB forward would record 34 points in 30 U15 Prep games. During the 2017/18 season Pederson would tally 22 points in 34 U18 Prep games.
He would begin the 2018/19 season with the OHA Edmonton U18 Prep team, producing 30 points in 18 games, before joining the Kootenay Ice for the remainder of the Western Hockey League (WHL) season. The Ice originally selected Pederson in the fifth round, 89th overall at the 2017 WHL Draft.
The Ice would move to Winnipeg in 2019/20 and Pederson would go with them, finishing with 50 points in 61 games. In 2020/21 he would add 31 points in 24 games, following that up with 43 points in 50 games in 2021/22.
This season Pederson finished sixth in team scoring with 74 points in games. He would add 12 points in 19 playoff games as the Ice made it to the WHL Finals.
