Parent / Guardian Code of Conduct
This Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct (this “Code”) presents the expectations for conduct of parents and
guardians of CSSHL student-athletes. Enforcing this Code allows the CSSHL and our member programs to
promote a safe, rewarding, and fun hockey environment for everyone involved.
Parents and guardians of CSSHL student-athletes are required to acknowledge and accept this Code before
each CSSHL season. By doing so, parents and guardians agree to follow this Code throughout the entire
season and to be accountable for their relatives and other invited guests whose behaviour fails to meet
the standards set forth in this Code. This code applies equally to an individual’s in-person actions and to
their online actions through any social media, email, messaging, or other virtual means.
As a parent or guardian of a CSSHL student-athlete:
● I will remember that these are our children under the helmets and equipment;
● I will remember that my child participates for his or her enjoyment, not mine;
● I will support the CSSHL’s mission to be national leaders in education-based hockey by supporting my
child’s academic progress alongside athletic achievement;
● I will remember that my behaviour, whether positive or negative, reflects on my child, their hockey
program, their school, and the CSSHL;
● I will treat all CSSHL student-athletes, officials (on and off-ice), coaches, managers, staff and
spectators, with dignity and respect in my language, attitude, behavior and mannerisms;
● I will not taunt, threaten or inflict physical violence upon any CSSHL student-athlete, official (on or
off-ice), coach, manager, staff or spectator;
● I will not participate in or encourage any behaviour, on or off of the ice, whether physical, verbal or
through digital or virtual means, that would endanger the health or well-being of any CSSHL studentathlete, official (on and off-ice), coach, manager, staff or spectator;
● I will not use abusive or vulgar language, racial, ethnic or gender-related slurs at any time which is
directed at or in reference to any CSSHL student-athlete, official (on and off-ice), coach, manager,
staff or spectator;
● I will remember that my child cannot play hockey games without referees, therefore I will respect
the referees and their decisions and will not become confrontational about penalties or other calls
made during games;
● I will support the coaches and allow them to do their job by not coaching my child or other players
from the stands during games and practices;
● I will not openly question or confront coaches before, during or after games or practices regarding
coaching or playing decisions;
● I will support and encourage my child to engage with coaches to address concerns about coaching
and playing decisions;
● I understand that I have a role to play in promoting a safe and positive hockey environment, and I
will support all efforts to remove verbal, physical and cyber abuse from youth hockey; and
I understand that if I, or my other family members or my guests, do not meet the standards set out in this
Code, I and/or they may be subject to disciplinary action that includes being removed from an arena and
being suspended from attending future CSSHL or CSSHL member events. I also understand that failure to
follow the above statements may lead to my student athlete’s removal from the CSSHL or CSSHL member
program(s).
