Pair of CSSHL Student-Athletes Sign with Chiefs

A pair of Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreements (SPA) with the Spokane Chiefs after being selected in the 2021 WHL Draft.

Salmon Arm, BC defenseman Nathan Mayes was selected in the third round, 51st overall out of Yale Hockey Academy. Now in his second CSSHL season, Mayes has 4 goals and 12 assists in 15 games this season. In five U15 Prep games last season Mayes tallied two goals and one assist.

Drafted in the second round, 41st overall, Luka Shcherbyna is in his third CSSHL season. The Vancouver, BC forward has 16 goals and 9 assists in 16 U17 Prep games this season with St. George’s School. In six games with the St. George’s U15 Prep team last season Shcherbyna had one goal and four assists. In 2019/20 he was part of the West Van Academy U15 team that won a CSSHL League Championship. He would finish with 23 goals and 32 assists in 30 games, plus an additional 10 points in 5 playoff games.
