North Shore Winter Club Takes Ownership of the North Shore Warriors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 2, 2026

An ownership change for the North Shore Warriors Hockey Academy has been approved by the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Board of Directors and Governors based on majority vote ahead of the 2026/2027 season. The ownership change became effective on July 1, 2026, with the North Shore Winter Club assuming control of the North Shore Warriors Hockey Academy.

The North Shore Warriors Hockey Academy was founded in 2016 and was formerly named the West Vancouver Warriors Hockey Academy. In 2022, the Academy rebranded and became the North Shore Warriors Hockey Academy. This high-performance hockey development program remains the only Hockey Canada Accredited School on Vancouver’s North Shore and joined the Canadian Sport School Hockey League in 2016. Since that time, the Academy has expanded to seven teams playing in U15, U15 Prep, U17, U17 Prep, U18 Prep and two Female U18 Prep.

North Shore Winter Club (NSWC) is a family athletic club located in North Vancouver, British Columbia since 1958. Their athletic facilities include 3 ice rinks and 1 goalie training ice. One of the biggest assets of the NSWC is the strength of its hockey program and hockey brand, led by General Manager and former NHL player Kyle Turris. Dominated by one of the strongest coaching lineups, additional ice times, enhanced skill development, and off-ice training, the NSWC is one of the premium choices for hockey on the North Shore.

“We would like to thank Nathan Fischer for his time with the CSSHL and with the North Shore program. We are excited to welcome the North Shore Winter Club to the CSSHL. The NSWC has a storied past of hockey development in their organization, and we look forward to having them as a positive contributing member of the CSSHL. We would like to thank Kyle Turris, General Manager and Bryce Zurowski, Chairman from the NSWC on their efforts and leadership to bring this together,” said Andy Oakes, Chair of The CSSHL Executive Operations Committee.

“We’re proud to welcome the North Shore Warriors into the North Shore Winter Club family,” said Kyle Turris, General Manager of North Shore Winter Club. “The Warriors have a longstanding history for developing athletes, and we’re committed to building on that legacy. By bringing these programs together, we can provide even greater opportunities for players and families while continuing to deliver the high standard of development and competition that defines the CSSHL.”

The North Shore Warriors have won two CSSHL Championship titles (2018, 2019) and are proud of their many alumni playing in the WHL, CJHL, USPORTS, NCAA, and professional ranks. NHL draft picks Connor Bedard (Chicago, 1st round, 2023) and Fraser Minten (Toronto, 2nd round, 2022) are recent Warriors alumni.

“We’re pleased to see the North Shore Warriors remain part of the CSSHL family through this acquisition,” said Mel Davidson, CSSHL Commissioner. “The North Shore Winter Club has a long-standing reputation for developing athletes and fostering excellence, and we look forward to seeing them thrive and compete at the highest levels.”

Having the CSSHL as a part of the North Shore Winter Club’s existing hockey program is a natural progression for players from the club and gives those student athletes and families the opportunity to continue participation in the NSWC with the opportunity for development in education-based hockey.
