The Mount Academy Saints U17 Prep team saw three players selected at the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) 2021 Territorial Draft on July 5, 2021.
Cam Henderson, Salem Johnson, and Mathieu Pelletier were all selected in this year’s MHL Territorial Draft after previously being selected in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Entry Draft at the end of last month.
A fifth-round pick, 90th overall by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft, Henderson, who is from New Minas, NS, was selected by the Valley Wildcats with their first pick in the MHL Territorial Draft.
Johnson, the lone defenseman of the trio, was selected in the fourteenth round, 238th overall by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in last month’s QMJHL Entry Draft. Johnson was selected in the second round of the MHL Territorial Draft by his hometown Fredericton Red Wings.
The Edmundston Blizzard selected St Jacques, NB native Pelletier with their first-round selection. Pelletier was a third-round pick, 51st overall by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft.
This was all three student-athletes first season with Mount Academy, though they were unable to play any Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson spent last season in the CSSHL recording 23 points in 30 games at the U15 Prep level with the Notre Dame Hounds.
