GAME DAY RECAP: September 28, 2025

South Alberta Hockey Academy (10) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (1) U15 Prep

The second of back-to-back games between South Alberta Hockey Academy and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy’s U15 Prep games went in a strikingly similar fashion to the first game, which was great news for the visitors, but not so much for the hosts. SAHA dominated the game throughout, and led by two goals and three points from Mason Bryksa, they rolled through PMHA for the second time in as many days. After scoring eight yesterday, SAHA followed it up with an incredibly impressive 10-1 stomping of their opponents.

BWC Academy (4) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (2) U15

Burnaby Winter Club and Coeur d’Alene’s three-game series between the two U15 squads have produced entertaining games until today, with BWC prevailing 8-5 and 4-3 in the first two days. Today, it seemed BWC’s game from the outset, with forty minutes of control for the visitors giving them a 3-0 lead through two periods. Their control of the game until then suggested this would be a more lopsided affair than the previous two, but one shift with under five minutes left in the third period threw a wrench into that plan. Logan Hooper (1G, 1A) had extended BWC’s lead to four, but in just 32 third-period seconds, Reed Witham and Jagger Clark both scored for CDA to suddenly reignite the contest. Lachlan Beatty’s armour proved strong from there, with the BWC goaltender ending the game having made 37 stops for the 4-2 victory.

Edge School (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (1) U15 Prep

Edge School’s U15 Prep squad had a red-hot start to the season, scoring 17 goals over their first two games of the season, but Saturday’s overtime loss at the hands of RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg was perhaps a wake-up call, with Edge School’s offensive dominance through the first three games coming at the cost of 15 goals being conceded over that time. Today’s game for Edge School proved something different: that their defences can hold strong, with Edge School goaltender Cohen Spencer stopping 27 of 28. Luke Bodtker (1G, 2A) and Matteo Dufour (1G, 1A) led the way offensively for Edge School, who dominated on both ends of the ice, eventually winning 4-1.

Delta Hockey Academy Green (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School (5) Female U18 Prep

After falling to Delta Green twice this weekend, Shawnigan Lake was looking to leave an impression as the weekend came to a close. Shawnigan would come out the gates flying as just 14-seconds into play, Grace Cooper (2G, 1A) would jump on a loose puck, giving Shawnigan the early advantage. Just a couple minutes later, Leah Hill (2G) would capitalise on a breakaway, going top right to double Shawnigan’s lead. Delta Green would show some pushback in the second, scoring an early goal of their own as Sophia Dhami netted her first of the season. Later in the frame, Payton Finnie (2G) would pounce on a loose puck to tie this game up at 2-2. However, Shawnigan would find their footing in the latter half of the period, resulting in a beautiful goal from veteran forward Zoe Cramer (1G, 3A). Cramer curled into the middle before rifling one bar down to restore Shawnigan’s lead. Into the third, Finnie would bury her second of the morning, squaring this game up once again. However, Shawnigan would keep up the offensive pressure and would once again regain the lead after Cooper fired home her second of the contest. Hill would add an empty netter to seal this one up for Shawnigan as they close their weekend out with a win over their Lower Mainland rivals. Aidyn Carkner (33/36) registered the win between the pipes, steering aside 33-shots for Shawnigan.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (7) U15 Prep

If there were oddsmakers choosing a favourite in the U15 Prep battle between Pacific Coast Hockey Academy and RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna, the outcome they’d have deemed most likely unfolded. RHA Kelowna established their ability through two wins over the North Shore Warriors, while back-to-back losses for PCHA to start the season left them without a win coming into Sunday’s game. RHAK lost twice to Yale Hockey Academy by a combined 25-3 scoreline so far on the weekend, and the motivation to bounce back was palpable. Ajax Smith (2G), Dexter Labrecque (1G, 2A), and Jaxon Lodge (3A) led the way for RHAK, who scored four second-period goals en route to a 7-1 win.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (7) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (1) U15

The U15 squad for RHA Kelowna have seen consistent struggles to kick off their season, with four losses in four games to start. Likewise, Pacific Coast Hockey Academy’s contingent needed a result of their own, also having lost every game to date, three in their three opening games. The game remained a close contest through forty minutes, with PCHA up 3-1 on RHAK through two, but the game remained close. Pacific Coast opened things up big-time, scoring four third-period goals to propel them well ahead of their opponents. Koen Nicholas (2G), Austin Murray (2G), and Greyson Ekramoddoullah (1G, 2A) led the way offensively, while PCHA goaltender Dylan Van Wierren made 27 stops for the win.

North Shore Warriors (1) vs STAR Hockey Academy (6) U17

For STAR, the win over North Shore last night was big, snapping their four-game losing streak to start the season. North Shore needed a result too, and would score their first goal of the season in today’s second period. However, the tilt of the ice in Saturday’s game between the North Shore and STAR was evident throughout, including a 22-5 shots on goal margin in their favour in the third period. Deacon Wilson scored twice, and Braden Payne’s goal in the second period stood as the winner. STAR ultimately peppered North Shore with 46 shots and scored six goals in a big victory.

Yale Hockey Academy (7) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) U15

Yale Hockey Academy’s red-hot start to the season was an intimidating task for Okanagan Hockey Academy to face down. The hosts, though, bounced back from two straight losses to start the season with back-to-back victories, including a 5-3 win over PCHA on Saturday. Unfortunately for OHA, the quality of Yale shone through in the form of a dominant performance from start to finish. Jack Hagen scored a hat-trick in a game that saw Yale outshoot OHA 49-18. In addition to Hagen, Sebastien Sibley (2G, 2A), and Matthew Tang (3A) led the way with three points apiece, and YHA’s four goals in the third period led them to a 7-1 win.

BWC Academy (8) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (2) U17

BWC Academy’s U17 squad would have felt extremely hard done by yesterday; they managed to force overtime late, but despite dominating throughout, fell 3-2 in a shootout against Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy. Max Joseph scored both goals for BWC yesterday, and it was he and teammate Eric Prexler who went to work early. In the first period alone, Joseph and Prexler would score two goals and two assists apiece, with BWC’s 4-1 lead through 20 minutes establishing their control of the game. Prexler and Joseph both went on from there, and discipline problems for CDA proved to be the nail in the coffin. BWC scored four power-play goals in the final two periods, with Prexler eventually scoring four, and Joseph three. BWC won 8-2, but despite the wide margin of victory, still needed goaltender Ethan Watson to do some work. Watson was joined by big point nights from Prexler (4G, 3A), Joseph (3G, 2A), Lukas Stevens (6A0, and Kaz Westcott (4A) in leading BWC to an 8-2 win.

Prairie Hockey Academy (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6) U15

Prairie Hockey Academy and RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg have seen plenty of one another already this weekend, with Sunday marking their third head-to-head meeting of the weekend. The game marked the last one RHAW needed to win to achieve a perfect September, after having won six straight to kick things off. Prairie hadn’t played up until this weekend, and performed admirably in their opener, forcing overtime in a game RHAW ultimately won 4-3. An 8-1 win for RINK on Saturday helped their confidence heading into the third of the three-game series, one they’d, however, start on the back foot. Ryder Grimes (1G, 1A) scored early to give PHA the lead, but at every point that Prairie thought they’d have an opportunity to take over the game, RINK would respond. Max Manaigre (1G, 1A) quickly hit back to tie things up, and RHAW led 2-1 after one. PHA came out flying in the second period, scoring twice quickly to take the lead, but a temporary one. Less than two minutes later, Hunter Lang (2G, 2A) scored to tie the game. Nash Smook (1G, 1A) gave his team the lead, and while PHA found a tying goal later, Lang would score RHAW a fifth to give RINK a third-period lead. Brock Labelle scored short-handed, assisted by Lang, to seal the deal with a goal late.

North Shore Warriors (4) vs St. George’s School (3) U15

North Shore and St. George’s U15 teams both had the opportunity on Sunday afternoon to earn their first win of the season. Only one could; St. George’s were outscored 17-3 in two losses to start the season, and North Shore’s three losses saw them concede 25 goals in the process. On Sunday, neither team opened up a big lead; North Shore took a 1-0  lead, and St. George’s took it back, before the Warriors tied it, went behind, and tied it again. The 3-3 score going into the third period had seen Langdon Moore (2G) leading the way for BWC and Alan Qiu (1G, 2A) helping SGS counter back. With under eleven minutes remaining in the third period, Talen Lindsay (1G, 1A) scored the game-winning goal. Warriors goaltender Ayaan Rao made 31 saves in 34 shots, including making 17 on 19 shots in the second period alone, helping North Shore over the finish line for their first victory of the season, and leaving St. George’s school still winless through September.

St. George’s School (1) vs BWC Academy (4) U15 Prep

Both St. George’s School and BWC Academy opened their U15 Prep seasons this weekend, but did so with different workloads; BWC played North Shore Friday and Delta Saturday, while St. George’s had to wait until Sunday to play their first game of the season. Nick Hill scored for SGS, standing as the only goal in the first period, and outshot their opponents 13-9. The to sides fought hard in an extremely tight second period, with BWC’s Michael Puddicombe tying the game on the way into the third period. BWC ended up shorthanded early in the third, but fortunately for them, it was that penalty that led to their go-ahead goal. An immediate shorthanded chance for Wyatt Lowther led to BWC’s lead, and the hosts grabbed the momentum from there. Ryder Bui (2G, 1A) scored twice later in the period, with the last twenty minutes leading BWC to a victory that looked in jeopardy earlier in the game.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (16) vs Notre Dame Hounds (0) U15

What to say about this one? Notre Dame’s U15 squad hadn’t started their season until yesterday, and they performed relatively well. The Northern Alberta Xtreme came into the weekend having won their first two games last weekend, and scored five on Saturday to help defeat Notre Dame 5-1. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, their valiant efforts at keeping the puck out of their net that limited NAX to five goals on Saturday were not as effective come Sunday. NAX fired 58 shots on goal in the game, ultimately hitting the back of the net with 16 of those shots. Led by big point nights from Mason Zimmer (2G, 3A), Rykker Kurka (3G), Cohen Aquino (2G, 1A), Dalton Sherwick (2G, 1A), and Asher Simms (4A), NAX’s 16 goals stand as the most by any U15 team in the CSSHL this season.

Delta Hockey Academy (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (5) U17

Connor Groves (2G) opened the scoring 1:31 into the game as he scored his first goal of the season for RHA Kelowna. Delta would take the lead midway through the period as Graeme Burke (2G) scored on the power play and added an even strength marker a few minutes later. Jake Kochhar (1G, 1A) evened the score heading into the second as he tallied his first of the season with 1:58 remaining. Delta regained the lead midway through the second when Riley Horne (1G, 1A) scored his first of the season, but it was short lived as Noam Colapinto (1G, 2A) tied the game just a few minutes later. Groves second of the game gave RHA Kelowna their second lead of the game 8:32 into the third period. Cole Morley doubled the lead with the eventual game winner with 4:48 remaining. Ryder Miller brought Delta back within one but with just 27 seconds left on the clock they would run out of time as they looked for an equaliser. Alex Youngson (33/37) made 33 saves for the win while Cole Chura (19/24) faced 24 shots in the loss.

Yale Hockey Academy (10) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) U15 Prep

Parker McMillan (2G, 2A) struck 1:53 in for his sixth goal of the season as Yale grabbed an early lead. Hayden Zygarliski doubled the lead 10 minutes later before Cohen Short (1G, 1A) and Teagan Dernisky (2G, 3A) traded goals to close out the period. Max Ritchey and Lukas Bachler scored 2:23 apart early in the second as Yale increased their lead to 5-1 heading into the third. Both teams would double their goal output in third as the game ended 10-2 in favour of Yale. Dernisky, Hunter Stewart (2G), Ryker Stevens and McMillan scored for Yale, while Jace Williams (1G, 1A) countered for OHA. Logan Hwang (18/20) made 18 saves for the win.

OHA Edmonton (7) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (6) U15 Prep

Liam Nycholat (2G, 1A) wasted no time welcoming OHA Edmonton into the building as the Calgary, AB forward scored for CIHA 25 seconds in. Kelson Hawreluik (4G) tied the game 5:04 later but CIHA retained the lead heading into the intermission as Joe Marien scored his second of the season. Nycholat would double the lead in the second, scoring inside the opening minute for the second straight period. CIHA looked to extend the lead even further as OHA Edmonton ran into penalty troubles, but it was the visitors who struck twice with Artello Forestal (2G, 2A) and Hawreluik scoring back-to-back shorthanded goals in a span of 52 seconds. OHA Edmonton would grab their first lead 3:59 later as Nate Harrington (1G, 1A) scored his first goal of the season. CIHA would take the lead back as George Matheos (1G, 1A) and Cole Chudyk (1G, 4A) found the back of the net. Hawreluik would complete the hat-trick just 1:35 later to even the score and send the game into the third period tied at 5-5. Hawreluik stayed hot in the third as he scored the go-ahead goal 3:40 into the final frame. Loic Lebel evened the score late as the two teams looked destined for OT. But Forestal would score his second of the game to give OHA Edmonton the 7-6 victory Sunday afternoon.

Shawnigan Lake School (6) vs Yale Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

Daniel Havard opened the scoring for Yale tallying his fourth goal of the season. Landon Rosse (1G, 1A) evened the score five minutes later with his first of the 2025/26 campaign. The Shawnigan power play took over in the second as it struck three times with Cache Thomas (2G), Mathew Steele and Carson Peet (2G) all taking advantage of their special teams opportunities. Kessler Hauser would get one back for Yale 1:22 into the third but Peet put the game out of reach 45 seconds later. Thomas would add a late insurance marker for Shawnigan as they earned a 6-2 win. Donagh Esler-Twiss (27/29) made 27 saves in net for the win, while Coby Kidwell (37/43) faced 43 shots in the loss.

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (0) vs Balmoral Hall School (7) Female U18 Prep

Balmoral outshot Pilot Mound 18-5 in the first but was unable to break through as Rehn Hall (52/59) kept the game scoreless heading into the second. Things would change quickly in the second as Brannagh Rae scored 5-on-5 while Payton Henwood and Hudson Bradley scored power play goals, all within the first 5 minutes of the period. Matylda Stepien and Henwood added goals before the end of the period to give Balmoral a comfortable 5-0 lead heading into the third. In the final period Rae would score shorthanded and Kaitlyn Harvey added her first of the season with 1:01 remaining to give their team a convincing 7-0 win. Mimi Ferreira (16/16) made 16 saves for her second shutout of the season.

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (5) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (0) U18 Prep

In the first U18 Prep game of the 2025/26 season Ryan Sadovia scored just 1:07 in to give RHA Kelowna an early first period lead. Rhett Tubello doubled the lead 4:55 into the second period as RHA Kelowna held an advantage of the shot clock and scoreboard heading into the third. It would remain a two goal gap until the final minutes as Nate Macphee and Joshua Johnstone scored 50 seconds apart and Parker Young added another with 1:31 remaining to give RHA Kelowna a 5-0 win. Asher Netherton (15/15) made 15 saves for the shutout while Mason Lynnes faced 35 shots in the loss.
