GAME DAY RECAP: September 24-25, 2024

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4/SO) U15 Prep

A late first period power play goal by Bryce Todd gave Shawnigan a 1-0 lead heading into the second. Hayden Slade gave Shawnigan their second power play goal of the night and a 2-0 lead 11:47 into the second. Pacific Coast would respond with two power play goals of their own as Ethan Parsons (2G) found the back of the net twice. Darwin Ketch re-stored the Shawnigan lead 7:09 into the third but Nehemiah Plunkett tied the game 38 seconds later to force overtime, and eventually a shootout. Oliver Boniface (41/44) stopped all four Shawnigan shooters and Maximus Scheffer beat Donagh Esler-Twiss (53/56) in the fourth round to give PCHA a 4-3 win. 

Bishop’s College School (7) vs Stanstead College (5) Eastern U18

A hectic first period saw Milan Turena, Taitt Dobbin and Elie Champagne scored for Bishop’s while David Deschatelets and Aaron Chipp (1G, 1A) scored for Stanstead. Deschatelets (2G, 1A) and Nathan Birch (1G, 1A) traded second period goals as Bishop’s remained ahead going into the third. Kayden Robitaille and Kenzie Smith extended the lead midway through the third before Kamyl Chemrouk (1G, 1A) and Ryan Dwyer scored 25 seconds apart to bring Stanstead back within one. But a Tristan Gagnon power play goal 20 seconds later and a 43 save performance by Timofey Williams (43/48) secured a 7-5 Bishop’s win. 

Calgary International Hockey Academy (7/OT) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U15 AAA

Liam Nycholat (2G, 1A) scored his second of the season midway through the opening period to give CIHA an early lead. Joyesh Ghosh extended the lead later in the period but Jett Evans (2G, 1A) got NAX on the board 8 seconds later. Tomas Figura (2G, 1A) scored 49 seconds into the second on the power play and Nycholat added his second of the game minutes later as CIHA started to pull ahead. Mohamed Garcia (1G, 2A) struck back for NAX 56 seconds later. Eric Sexton (1G, 1A) would add another power play goal for CIHA but this time Erik Miller replied for NAX 47 seconds later. Brick McCord Cooper (1G, 3A) and Easton Mattersdorfer traded goals to close out the period. In the third Emmett Abel (1G, 1A) scored a power play marker and Evans scored 2:18 later to tie the game and force OT. In overtime Figura scored 50 seconds in to hand the defending champs NAX their first loss of the season. 

Shawnigan Lake School (5) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

Ryan Turner opened the scoring just 15 seconds in and a goal by Sidney Armstrong (1G, 1A) 1:31 later saw Shawnigan race out to a quick 2-0 lead. Jed Lake (2G) scored near the end of the first to get PCHA within one and on the board. Phoenix Hinks (1G, 1A) and Nolan Blankstein (1G, 1A) scored second period goals and Nigel Alberts scored five minutes into the third as Shawnigan took a commanding 5-1 lead. Lake would score 36 seconds later to get Pacific Coast some late life but Liam Ryan (38/40) would finish with 38 saves as Shawnigan won 5-2.
