Game Day Recap: October 5/7, 2022

Notre Dame (3/SO) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (2) U16 Prep

The lone game of the day on Wednesday saw Notre Dame defeat Prairie 3-2 in a shootout. Kale Pratte opened the scoring 9:41 into the first as Prairie held a 1-0 lead after 20. Michael Donovan would tie the game just 2:30 into the second, but a AJ Paulsen goal 12 minutes later would give PHA the lead heading into the third. Calvin Gustafson would score just 1:59 into the third to once again tie the game, and ultimately force extra time. After a scoreless OT, Koby Bossaer scored the only goal in the shootout to give Notre Dame the win. Grady Peterson made 35 stops for the win, while Kale Gorski stopped 54 in net for Prairie.

Edge School (6) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U18 Prep

Hayden Harsanyi (2G) gave Edge a 1-0 lead after 20 thanks to a first period marker. Drew Williamson (1G, 1A) and Landon Hanson (2G) would score power play goals for NAX in the second before Nolan DuPont (1G, 2A) would score shorthanded to tie the game heading into the third. Hanson would re-give NAX the lead just 13 seconds into the third before Edge scored four straight goals in the final 14 minutes to grab a 6-3 victory. Ben Polhill stopped 38 saves in the win. Spencer Michnik was (21/27) was in net for NAX in the loss.

North Shore Warriors (5) vs BWC Academy (3) U16 Prep

Matteo Paradiso and Cameron Collins would score 10 second apart late in the first as North Shore held a 2-0 lead after 20. Gavin Huynh (1G, 1A) would extend the lead 3:11 into the second before Christian Revel and Nathan Tomcheck would bring BWC Academy within one heading into the third. Brandin Cronin (2G, 1A) would score just 12 seconds into the third for NSW to re-gain the two goal lead. Aidan Mark would bring BWC Academy back within one late in the period but a Cronin empty netter would seal the deal.

Prairie Hockey Academy (3/SO) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

The two teams traded first period goals with Luke Cannon (1G, 1A) scoring for Prairie and Brett Calhoon responding for SAHA. SAHA would hold the lead after 40 thanks to Nick McLennan’s first of the year midway through the second. But Bryson Aikens would score early in the third to tie the game and force OT. After a scoreless OT, five of the six skaters scored in the shootout with Michael Malinowski (33/35) coming up with the one key save to give Prairie the win. Zach Zahara stopped 36 of 38 for SAHA in the loss.

Delta Hockey Academy (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) U16 Prep

Dalton Toma (1G, 1A) and Jasper Fellbaum (2G) would score less than two minutes a part in the first period as Delta had a 2-0 lead after 20. Karson Schick would get one back for OHA in the second period with his first of the year, but a Fellbaum empty net goal with 11 seconds remaining would secure the Delta victory.  Shay McVicker turned away 28 of 29 shots to earn the win. Jonah Tonhauser stopped 28 of 30 for OHA in the loss.
