RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna Red (1) vs North Shore Warriors (2) Women’s U18 Prep
The North Shore Warriors went into Friday coming off a win over the Warriors’ Orange Women’s contingent, with their Thursday evening win helping NSW carry a wave of positive momentum into Friday morning. The Warriors controlled proceedings while the game was played five-on-five, using that control to take a 1-0 lead into the second period. RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna Red made good on a powerplay chance early in the second to drag the game back to level ground, with Taylor Dumont notching her second CSSHL goal to send the game into the third period tied at one. The weight of pressure forced upon RINK by North Shore eventually broke the Kelowna defences, with Brynn Makkreel scoring her second goal in as many games to make it 2-1 early in the third period. Emma Ward shut the door in the third period, stopping all nine she faced in the final twenty minutes, and saving 23 of 24 shots in the game to earn the victory.
STAR Hockey Academy (7) vs North Shore Warriors (2) U15
The script flipped in the first intermission of STAR Hockey Academy and the North Shore Warriors’ U15 clash on Friday, with the game before that point and the game after that point two distinct contests. An evenly-matched first period saw North Shore emerge up by one goal, but STAR took the game as their own in the second, tying the game early through Kaiden Thiessen. In the six minutes following STAR’s equalizer, Callan Dorzek and Leif Steingard both scored, before Mitchell Host struck the first of what would end up being two STAR shorthanded goals to make it 4-1 through forty minutes. Sawyer Glass’ first in the CSSHL gave STAR another shorty early in the third, making it 5-1, a score they’d build on enough to eventually secure a 7-2 win.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) vs OHA Edmonton (4) U17
Julien Crook scored twice on the road for OHA Edmonton, but unfortunately for RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg, Crook’s brace was as much offensive output that Winnipeg could muster. Ryder Letendre and Kole Imlay made it 2-0 OHAE, Darius Paradayil’s fifth of the year would make it 3-1, and Wim Coderre’s first at the U17 level sealed the deal late at 4-2 OHA Edmonton.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (0) U17
Griffin Prairie Chicken (48/50) stood tall, doing everything he could to pull out a result on Friday against OHA in Penticton, but unfortunately, he and RHAK were beaten by the superiority of their regional rivals. OHA doubled up RHAK’s shots on goal in both the first and the second periods, with two from Owen Magness before the third period even began helping OHA into the third period up by a pair. RHAK would push in the third, with all of their efforts stifled by OHA’s Nathen Bazley, who stopped all nine in the third and 26 saves in the game for a shutout in OHA’s victory.
Notre Dame Hounds (0) vs Edge School (12) U15
The Notre Dame Hounds’ U15 squad had to face an opponent that performed leaps and bounds above them on Friday, with a 20-2 shots on goal margin in Edge School’s favour after one period alone an indication as to what the game’s scoreline would end up as. Edge School’s special teams proved potent in the first, with two powerplay goals and a shorthanded goal establishing Edge’s early lead. Edge School’s 12-0 victory was fuelled by Zach Robins’ ten save shutout, two goals apiece from Colton Roussel (2G, 1A), Beckhem Falloon (2G, 1A), and Cohen Codner, five points from Anderson MacBeath (1G, 4A), and, of course, BioSteel®.
Ulysse Academie (1) (BioSteel) vs Lower Canada College (8) (BioSteel) East
The Lower Canada College took a 2-1 lead out of the first period of play on Friday against Ulysse, a tightly-fought twenty minutes that was, unfortunately, as close as the game would be. LCC’s offensive output only exploded from there, led by five points and a hat-trick from Harry Miller, four assists from Zack Fyfe, and two goals each from Gino Giordani (2G, 1A) and Gianluca Gatto (2G, 1A) leading LCC to an 8-1 win.
Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks (0) (CCM) vs Bishop’s College School (5) (BioSteel) East
Bishop’s College School were held scoreless by the Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks through twenty minutes of play, with the Mavericks’ first-period survival something that goaltender Adam Barchanek (34/39) couldn’t maintain for the whole game. Marc-Antoine Larochelle (1G, 1A) scored a second-period powerplay goal to get the ball rolling for Bishop’s, with Greyson Hnatiuk’s fourth of the season further pushing BCS away from the Mavericks before the game’s halfway mark. Nathan Cahill stopped 20 of 20 and Bishop’s scored three more in the third for the 5-0 win.
STAR Hockey Academy (6) vs North Shore Warriors (0) U17
Any defences the North Shore Warriors possessed to hold off STAR Hockey Academy in the U17 division on Friday were meticulously undone by one player for STAR, whose first 25 minutes of the game alone pushing STAR beyond what the Warriors could reach. Killian Haggard scored two in the first and one to start the second to complete his natural hat-trick and Dantaie Franklin (30/30) in between the pipes for STAR stood strong, with Creighton Ellis, Lukas Hamilton, and Ryezen Bertsch adding goals in the visitors’ 6-0 win.
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (10) U17
Two goals in an eight-second span in the first period established and then quickly doubled the Northern Alberta Xtreme’s lead, with that 2-0 lead in the first period not even the quickest that NAX’s goals would flow in Devon. Four in the second and four in the third for NAX only ran the score higher, with two goals each from Reed Fellows (2G, 2A), AJ Dutchak (2G, 1A), and Zuan Jenkinson (2G) leading NAX to the eventual 10-1 win.
Indigenous Sports Academy (1) vs Edge School (14) U17 Prep
Twenty-four hours after a 10-2 win over Indigenous Sports Academy, Edge School ran it back at the Kyle Stuart Memorial and somehow found another gear. ISA struck first, with Archie Tawiyaka (1G) finishing a Jakub Palmer (1A) feed less than five minutes in, but the lead lasted 41 seconds. Kyden Bartole (2G, 2A) answered, Easton Armstrong (2G, 1A) scored eight seconds later, and the home side piled up six goals on 24 shots in the opening period alone. Cade Mazurski (2G, 3A) and Noah Brade (2G, 3A) each finished with five points, Lachlan Kisio (1G, 4A) had a hand in five goals of his own, and defenceman Kye Taggart (1G, 2A) added a three-point night as ten different Edge players scored. The final shot count read 57-5, and Jameson Arcand deserves credit for keeping it from getting uglier, turning aside 43 of them in the ISA crease. Luke Tschetter (1G, 1A) potted his first goal of the season.
Delta Hockey Academy Black (4) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (0) U15
For 40 minutes, Hunter Villecourt gave Pacific Coast Hockey Academy every chance to steal one. Delta Hockey Academy Black outshot the home side 28-17 through two periods, and the PCHA netminder let only one past him, a late first-period strike from Alexander Anderson (1G) set up by Jake Plante (1G, 1A). That lone goal held up as the winner, because Ray Baran was every bit as sharp at the other end. The third period finally cracked it open. Plante (1G, 1A) doubled the lead midway through, with Weston Patrick (1A) and Rhett Lowndes (1G, 1A) earning the helpers, and Cruz Natt (1G) scored unassisted 79 seconds later to make it 3-0. Lowndes (1G, 1A), the team’s leading scorer, added the fourth with under 90 seconds to play. Villecourt finished with 41 saves on 45 shots, while Baran (27/27) closed the door for the shutout as Delta Black stayed perfect on the season and made it two wins in two meetings with PCHA.
Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) vs Shawnigan Lake School (2) Women’s U18 Prep
Okanagan Hockey Academy outshot Shawnigan Lake 34-30 and still left the Charlie Purdey Arena searching for its first win of the season, because Tess McGee (2G) scored both times it mattered. Shawnigan’s leading scorer opened the scoring early in the second off a Noe Crookham (2A) setup, and the home side protected that lead deep into the period. OHA finally broke through with 50 seconds left before intermission, when Hayden Wild (1G) potted her first goal of the season on a feed from defender Prestley Starr (1A). The tie didn’t survive long into the third. Just over four minutes in, McGee (2G) struck again, with Crookham (2A) and Grace Cooper (1A) on the helpers, and that was all Jordyn Kemp needed. The Shawnigan netminder turned aside 33 of 34 shots, including all 10 she faced in the third as OHA pushed for an equalizer, while Teagan Janzen (28/30) kept the visitors within reach at the other end.
OHA Edmonton (6) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) U15 Prep
OHA Edmonton’s first road game of the season came with a far tougher test than the lopsided scores it had been posting at home, and Connor Braun was the reason. The Pilot Mound netminder faced 55 shots and stopped 49 of them, keeping the home side level at 3-3 through 40 minutes. PMHA’s power play did plenty of the work, with Dane Magwood (1G, 2A) opening the scoring on the man advantage and Brycen Faul (2G, 1A) striking twice in the second, the latter with 14 seconds left before the break. Defenceman Deacon Gillespie (2G) answered with a pair of his own for the visitors, one of them on the power play. The third belonged to Edmonton. Marek Fetter (1G, 2A) put OHAE back in front, Jacoby Cardinal (1G, 1A) added the winner and Reid Hartmann (1G, 1A) the insurance before Zac Klassen (1G, 1A) pulled one back late, as OHAE stretched its win streak to four.
St. George’s School (11) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (0) U17 Prep
St. George’s School put 68 shots on the Wenatchee net and turned enough of them into goals for an 11-0 win, the visitors’ first road victory of the season. Luca Rogers (3G, 1A) led the way, and his timing was hard to beat: his first three goals of the season all arrived on the same night, the last of them late in the third to complete the hat-trick. Jayden Ni (2G, 2A) opened the scoring 72 seconds in, Ryder Flasko (2G, 1A) added a pair, and defenceman Matthias Goetz (1G, 3A) chipped in four points from the back end. Minsoo Lee (3A) and blueliner Linus Rajan (3A) handled much of the playmaking as seven different SGS skaters lit the lamp. William Duffy deserves credit in the Wenatchee crease for turning aside 57 shots on a long night, while Cohen Wood stopped all 12 he faced at the other end for the shutout.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (2) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (8) U15 Prep
Northern Alberta Xtreme hung with RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg for one period. The next two belonged to Nash Smook (3G). Sebastian Morgan (2G) gave the visitors a power-play lead midway through the first, but defenceman Drew Simpson (1G, 1A) answered on a man advantage of his own with 17 seconds left before intermission, and the home side never trailed again. Hunter Lang (2G) scored unassisted early in the second, Smook (3G) followed with the eventual winner, and Lang (2G) struck again to make it 4-1. Smook (3G) found the net twice more in the third to complete the hat-trick, with Brock Labelle (3A) setting up all three of his goals, and Yuto Agapito (1G, 1A) potted his first of the season on the power play. On a night when both sides spent plenty of time in the box, Morgan (2G) cashed in a second time late for NAX. Cooper Beardy (24/26) handled the RINK crease, while Marek Swanson made 42 saves on 50 shots for NAX.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (5/OT) U15
Augustine Paziuk (3G, 1A) opened the scoring, closed it and reached double digits along the way, lifting Northern Alberta Xtreme to a 5-4 overtime win in a game that nearly slipped away. Paziuk (3G, 1A) struck twice in the first five minutes, and when Tarron Lehman (1G) made it 3-0, RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg turned to Nolan Memka (21/23) in relief. Defenceman Maddox Andrews (1G) pushed the lead to 4-1 in the second, with Everett Whelen (2A) setting up a pair of NAX goals. Then the visitors came alive. RINK poured 18 shots on goal in the third and erased the deficit with three goals in under five minutes, from Kelton Cross (1G, 1A), Jacob McDonald (1G, 1A) and Adrian Sinclair (1G, 1A), the latter two combining on the tying goal. Alexander Masikewich turned aside 40 of 44 shots, and an NAX penalty kill that went 7-for-7 kept them alive. Then, 2:36 into overtime, Paziuk (3G, 1A) finished the job though 3 guys for the hat-trick and his 10th goal of the season.
Northern Alberta Xtreme (2) vs OHA Edmonton (12) U17 Prep
If you stepped out for a snack during the second intermission at the Royal Glenora Club, you missed four goals. OHA Edmonton already led Northern Alberta Xtreme 6-0 after 40 minutes, and the home side struck four more times in the first 100 seconds of the third, greeting relief netminder Kash Andersen (13/19), who had taken over from Ben Wagner (25/31), on the way to a 12-2 win. Easton Charpentier (3G, 1A) led the way with a hat-trick, Gavin Gong (2G, 1A) and Hunter Jacobs (2G, 1A) each added a pair, and Maddox Turcotte (2G) potted his first two goals of the season, the second of them shorthanded. Markus Willier (4A) did all his damage as a setup man, and Moe Garcia (3A) served up three more. Seven different OHAE players scored in all. At the other end, Rowen Germain (30/32) stayed sharp through an 18-shot NAX push in the second before Charlie Dean (1G) and Nolan Ryan (1G) finally broke through late.
Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (2) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep
Something had to give at Westhills Arena, where two teams still searching for their first win of the season met for the first time. It was Pacific Coast Hockey Academy that broke through, holding on for a 3-2 win over Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy. Gus Steeves (2G) was the difference, and he picked a good night for his first two goals of the season. He opened the scoring late in the first off a feed from defenceman Rhett Resicini (1A), then doubled the lead 87 seconds into the second. Tate Davis (1G) made it 3-0 midway through the period on a setup from Blaise Sorenson (1A), and that cushion turned out to matter. Coeur d’Alene pushed back in the third. Aden Bancarz (1G) got the visitors on the board, and Carter West (1G) pulled them within one less than four minutes later, both players scoring for the first time this season. The home side held firm over the final 10 minutes, and PCHA is in the win column at last.
Yale Hockey Academy (4/OT) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep
Following a scoreless first, Jagger Clark would put CDA on the board just 48-seconds into play. Alex Li (1G, 1A) would chip in a second for CDA while shorthanded less than three minutes later. Later in the frame, Ryker Stevens (2G) and Theodore Kim would brings things back to even for Yale. Stevens would strike again early in the third for Yale, giving them their first lead of the contest. However, Mattox McCauley would net another PP marker for CDA, enough to force this game into overtime. Halfway into the extra frame, Kamloops Blazers prospect Marcus Phillips (1G, 1A) would deliver the dagger, putting Yale in the win column after a hard fought matchup. Logan Hwang would make 40-saves in the OTW while Gunner Podollan stepped up big time with a 55-save effort in the loss, stealing CDA a point.
North Shore Warriors (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) U15 Prep
Nikita Neklyudov (32/33) was lights out between the pipes for North Shore, stopping all attempts through forty keeping things square at 0-0. Early in the third, Mason Liebel would finally crack the seal, getting OHA on top. Neklyudov would remain perfect following Liebel’s tally but North Shore’s offense couldn’t find an answer for Oakley Speckman with their limited chances. Speckman would collect 15 saves for his third career CSSHL shutout while Lukas Pandachuck delivered the EN goal to wrap up a 2-0 victory for OHA.
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6/OT) vs Shawnigan Lake School (5) U17 Prep
A heated first would not see any scoring but the scoresheet would see some action in the second. Will Tidsbury (1G, 1A) and Jaxon Lodge (1G, 3A) would score back-to-back goals on the man advantage for RHA Kelowna. Bryce Todd (3G) would snatch one back for Shawnigan before Aksel Smith (1G, 1A) buried another powerplay goal late in the frame for RHA Kelowna. Starting the third on the powerplay, RHA Kelowna’s Luca Vaugeois (2G, 1A) would add a fourth PP goal just 20-seconds in. Teams would exchange goals once more leaving the score at 5-2 in favour of RHA Kelowna. In the latter half of the third, Shawnigan would bounce back for three unanswered including Todd’s hat-trick and game tying goal with only 2-seconds remaining on the clock. It wouldn’t take long for our game to be decided in overtime as Vaugeois buried the winner a mere 15-seconds into OT. Shawnigan’s last ditch effort stole them a point in this one.
