Game Day Recap – October 1, 2021

Edge School (5) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U15

A back and forth game between Edge and NAX saw 9 goals scored in the last 40 minutes including 3 in the last 10. 20 skaters recorded at least a single point, with seven of those skaters recording multiple points. Both teams were opportunistic on the power play, capitalizing twice. Parker Snell made 23 saves in the win. 

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) U15 Prep

OHA scored three first period goals to jump to an early lead before RINK Kelowna scored two straight in the second to bring them within one. Mathis Preston would score his fourth of the season two minutes later to help secure the win. Charlie Grant scored two goals and Liam Ruck had a goal and an assist for OHA.  

Delta Hockey Academy Green (6/SO) vs BWC Academy (5) U15 Prep

Delta scored with 3:27 left to take a 5-4 lead but BWC would respond with a goal of their own with 14 seconds left to force overtime. Overtime would solve nothing and a shootout would eventually lead to a Delta victory. Nine different skaters scored in regulation and Peyton Dorman scored twice for BWC. Mitchell Pearce picked up the win in net for Delta. 

BWC Academy (8) vs West Van Academy (1) U16 Prep

Backed by a five goal second period BWC beat West Van 8-1. 40 seconds after BWC opened the scoring West Van would tie the game at one, but that was as close as they would get as BWC scored seven straight. Jake Phillips-Watts scored twice and added two assists, and Carter Andrews found the back of the net twice for BWC in the win. 

Prairie Hockey Academy (0) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U16 Prep

NAX went 3 for 4 on the powerplay and outshot Prairie 50-15 in a 6-0 win. Six different skaters scored for NAX including Owen Berge who had a goal and an assist. Defenseman Hyde Davidson had two assists and Spencer Michnik recorded the shutout for NAX. 

Edge School (7) vs Notre Dame Hounds (2) U17 Prep

The first period saw a flurry of action as five goals were scored in the final eight minutes. After a close first Edge would score three goals in the second and add a late tally in the third to win 7-2 against Notre Dame. Brendan Calahasen scored a hattrick and added an assist to propel the Edge attack. Baden Powell recorded two assists for Notre Dame in the loss. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy White (0) vs Yale Hockey Academy (5) U17 Prep

Maddox Osaka made just 16 saves to earn the shutout for Yale’s U17 team in a 5-0 win for OHA White. Yale scored three powerplay goals, including two in the first period and were led offensively by Steven Foster (1G, 2A), Jesse Heslop (1G, 1A), Sullivan Menard (2A), Chase Valliant (2G), and Sullivan Menard (2A). Nathan Preston made 42 saves in the loss for OHA White. 

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (0) U17 Prep

Jacob Burnside earned his first shutout of the year as OHA Black outshot RINK Kelowna 46-26 and won 4-0. Four different forwards scored for OHA Black and defenseman Logan Bates added two assists in the win. 

Delta Hockey Academy (8) vs Shawnigan Lake School (1) U17 Prep

Miguel Marques scored a hattrick and recorded two assists as Delta outshot Shawnigan 61-16 in an 8-1 win. Jordan Gavin, Tomas Mrsic, and Noah Macdonald all scored in less than a two minute span in the first as part of a four goal period. Grant Nuzzo scored the lone goal for Shawnigan. 

Yale Hockey Academy (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) U18 Prep

Brady Smith made 23 saves and Caleb Hadland scored a goal and added an assist in a 3-1 win for Yale Hockey Academy. Colton Schmidt scored the lone OHA goal early in the third to tie the game at one, before Connor Dale scored the game winner three minutes later. 

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6) vs Notre Dame Hounds (2) U18 Prep

Despite outshooting RINK Winnipeg 42-36, Notre Dame fell 6-2 as Donovan Bodnar was the difference in the game with 40 saves. Forward Gavin Hodnett (2G, 1A) and defenseman Merrek Arpin (1G, 1A) led the way for RINK Winnipeg, who dominated the special teams battle score once on the power play, and twice shorthanded. Tyson Endall made 30 saves on 35 shots in the loss for Notre Dame. 

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs St. Mary’s Female (1) U18 Prep

St. Mary’s scored with 50 seconds left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead but RINK Winnipeg would rally with three goals of their own in the second period to win 3-1. Keara Parker (1G, 1A) and Katie Anhalt (2A) led the way for RINK Winnipeg offensively, as Avery LeBleu made 20 saves in the win. Jordyn Espenell made 23 saves for St. Mary’s. 

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (9) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy Female (0) U18 Prep

Kayla Kutes scored 1:01 into the game for RINK Kelowna on route to a 9-0 win. RINK Kelowna improved offensively each period, scoring two in the first, three in the second, and four in the third. Kutes, Mia Kenmore and Mikayla Blomquist all scored twice and Margaux Favre made 11 saves for RINK Kelowna in the shutout win. 

Mount U16 Prep (6) vs Ontario Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep

In the first East Division game of the 2021/22 CSSHL season the Mount Hockey Academy U16 Prep team defeated the Ontario Hockey Academy U17 Prep team 6-1. Rylan Benner made 33 saves in the win, while Christopher Panza had 48 saves in the loss. Justin Hughes (1G,1A) and Jack Brown (2A) were the games leading scorers. 

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (1) U18 Prep vs Ontario Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

OHO jumped out to a lead half way through the first period before OHA would score three straight goals, including the eventual game winner with 53 seconds left in the second period. Ryuto Nakamoto made 28 saves in the win and Braeden O’Keefe (1G,1A), Petar Simic (1G,1A) and Zeteny Molnar finished with multi point games.

Mount #2 U18 Prep (4) vs Bourget U18 Prep (7)

Down 3-2 heading into the third period Bourget would score five goals in the final 20 minutes to secure a 7-4 win. Emile Tremblay (2G,1A) and Arnav Saluja (4A) led the way offensively for Bourget, who went for 1 for 2 on the powerplay. Four different Mount players, Andrew Bellehumeur (1G,1A), Landon Fraser (2A), Timon Moschen (1G,1A) and Owen Underhill (1G,1A), finished with multi point games.

CIH U17 Prep (2) vs Bourget U17 Prep (5)

Teddy Ecker made 30 saves as Bourget U17 Prep defeated CIH U17 Prep 5-2. Marc-Antoine Riopel scored 2:30 in and Ondrej Leska scored his first of two a minute and a half later as Bourget jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Remi Hay made 33 saves in the loss for CIH. 

CIH U18 Prep (1) vs Mount #1 U18 Prep (8) East

 Mount capitalized on their only power play chance of the game and Jack Flanagan made 21 saves as they defeated CIH 8-1 in the final Eastern Division game of the night. Isaac Tremblay scored once and added four assists and Chad Lebeau finished with a goal and three assists as Mount scored five goals in the first period of their win.
