GAME DAY RECAP: November 1, 2024

STAR Hockey Academy (7/OT) vs Notre Dame (6) U15

The scoring was bountiful between STAR and Notre Dame in an early morning showdown in Penticton, BC. STAR had the early advantage, potting two in the first before Notre Dame’s Jax Baumuller (1G, 3A) wired home one late in the frame to get the Hounds on the scoresheet. Teams would swap goals early in the second but William Clarke (2G) would bury home a sweet passing play in close to knot things up at three a piece. STAR would fire right back, nabbing another pair including a shorthanded bomb from Riley O’Brien. Ryder Fiddler (3G) would get one back shortly after with a highlight reel effort, but STAR remained on top through forty. However, the Hounds didn’t count themselves out of this one just yet. Fiddler would go on to add another two including the game tying goal with less than a minute to go, forcing overtime and completing his hat-trick. In the extra frame, Seve Paladino (3A) would strip a Notre Dame forward at his own blueline before sending Mason Olson (1G, 1A) in all alone on the breakaway where he would make no mistake placing the game winner over Westyn Hlady’s (34/41) right shoulder. 

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (5) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (3) U15

Callan McCall (2G) opened up the scoring for PCHA just 27-seconds into play. PCHA would continue to strike the scoresheet early as just under five minutes later Hudson Elke would double their lead. CDA would regroup for the second, knotting things up at two after a quick pair off the sticks of Thomas Biggerstaff (1G, 1A) and Bode Lala (1G, 1A). McCall would add his second of the morning to restore PCHA’s lead through two. Despite things looking bleak for CDA before the ice clean, everything started to tumble in their favour once the powerplays started rolling in. Maxwell Stevens tied everything back up scoring on the first leg of a four minute powerplay while Hayden Carpenter (1G, 1A) netted the go ahead goal on the man advantage just under two minutes later. Colton Stoltz (1G, 1A) would go on to net the EN as CDA wins their first matchup of the U15 showcase in Penticton, BC.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) vs Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U15

OHA exited the first on top with a one goal lead thanks to a tip in front from Hudson Wicharuk (1G, 1A). However, RHA Winnipeg would come out swinging in the second, netting two quick ones off the sticks of Kelson Hawreluik (1G, 1A) and Ryder Olford (1G, 2A). OHA wouldn’t be discouraged after surrendering the early goals as Cruz Rasmussen (1G, 1A) and Jett Wood would net two of their own in a matter of 1:34 to take back the lead. Eli Wasyluk (1G, 1A) would grab one back for RHA Winnipeg before the end of the second to once again make things even. In the final frame, OHA wouldn’t skip a beat as Owen Magness (3G) scored twice in 61-seconds to establish a late lead that would go on to seal this match up all together in a 7-4 victory.

Fort Erie International Academy (7/SO) vs King Heights Academy (6) U18 East

To ignite our weekend out east, FEIA and King Height’s put on a back and forth contest that would fill up the scoresheet. Chase Thompson (2G, 2A) got KHA the early advantage potting two points in the opening frame. The second would see seven tallies cross the goal line, ending the frame at a score of 5-5. Ben Cornick (2G, 2A) would give FEIA the go ahead goal early in the frame, but Thompson would net a late game tying goal for KHA. Overtime wouldn’t solve anything, leading to a lengthy shootout to find the winner. Goals didn’t come as a luxury in the shootout as each team scored three times in the opening four rounds. It would come down to the ninth round where Ethan Butler would go on to net the eventual winner for FEIA.

BWC Academy (3) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (5) U15

Through two, BWC Academy had the upper hand on NAX. A late pair from Eric Prexler (2G) in the second was able to put BWC Academy ahead by one before the ice clean. Entering the third, NAX came out with everything in their arsenal. Easton Mattersdorfer was able to tie things up part way through the frame while Knox Kehler (2G) buried home the go ahead goal with just under six minutes left on the clock. An empty netter would go on to seal the comeback victory for NAX as the showcase gets underway in Penticton, BC.  

Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs OHA Edmonton (0) Female U18 Prep

Elise Slywka (1G, 1A) got NAX on the board in the first with a blast from the slot. The scoring would take a hiatus in the second as both Aldawna Evers (31/31) and Natalie Georgeson (20/22) shut down each and every chance. In the third, NAX would double their lead off a sharp wrister from Sawyer Mackay (2G), which would go on to be this match’s insurance marker. Evans remained perfect through sixty minutes for NAX, clinching the shutout and backing her team to their first win of the regular season.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (8) vs OHA Edmonton (2) U18 Prep

Ben Deacon (2G, 2A) opened the scoresheet for NAX in this contest, raking up the two lone goals in the first. NAX would continue to impose their offensive wrath on OHA Edmonton, netting another three unanswered to start the second before two late goals cut their deficit to three. However, NAX would keep the pressure going, scoring another three in the third. Along with Deacon, Jackson DeGraves (1G, 3A) would also secure four points in the NAX victory.

St. George’s School (2) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

After a quiet opening ten minutes, Wenatchee would find their groove and net the games opening marker thanks to Geon Park. Later in the frame with 8-seconds left on the clock, Dylan Crossley (1G, 1A) would double Wenatchee’s lead heading into the intermission. No goals would find twine in the second as Wenatchee’s Nathaniel Madrigal (31/33) stopped all 18-shots to that point. In the final frame, St. George’s would take a step forward, tying the game up halfway through the period after Eddy Spytz and London Taylor stepped up offensively. This game was looking as if it would head to OT, but a late push from Wenatchee rewrote the script to this matchup up as AJ Bauchrowitz net his first of the season to give the Wild a late lead. Cameron Kimmerly would go on to seal this game up with an empty netter shortly after as Wenatchee took down the Saints on home ice.

Notre Dame (4) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U17

After twenty, Notre Dame and NAX would remain knotted up at 1-1. The second would see our first sway in momentum as Notre Dame escaped the frame on top after Luke White (1G, 1A) netted the go ahead goal halfway through the period. Part way through the third, NAX’s Seth Kshyk would tie the game up at 3-3 off a goal on the man advantage. It wasn’t until Notre Dame saw a powerplay of their own where the tables would once again turn. Jordan Van Langen (3G, 1A) would pot the go-ahead an eventual GWG on the powerplay to grant Notre Dame the huge win over NAX, fetching the Hounds their second win of the regular season. 

Delta Hockey Academy White (2) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) U15

12 CIHA skaters found the scoresheet in their showcase opener versus Delta White. Liam Nycholat (2G, 1A) led the charge with a three point outing, including a shorthanded goal in the mix. CIHA’s powerplay would also finish an impressive 3/3. Taylor Green (30/32) picked up the win in goal with a 30-save performance to open the weekend.

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (1) vs OHA Edmonton (7) U15 Prep

OHA Edmonton was all over the ice in Friday’s victory over Pilot Mound. Artello Forestal continues his hot start to the season with his second consecutive four point outing, giving him three on the season while Steven Leavitt (1G, 2A) and Liam McFadden (3A) each nabbed three point performances of their own. Gavin Steeves (18/19) picked up the win in goal and also snatched an assist in the process.

BWC Academy (2) vs North Shore Warriors (3/SO) U17 Prep

Chase Vossenaar netted the opening goal for NSW with his tenth of the campaign. Scoring wouldn’t resume again until the third where Alexander Brent would double NSW’s lead. However, after finding themselves in penalty trouble, BWC Academy would force themselves back into contention with two powerplay goals off the sticks of Kayden Pratt and Ryan Fox, enough to force overtime and an eventual shootout. Vossenaar would apply the pressure in the second round getting one past Josh Wu (32/34). Zephyr Harms had to score for BWC Academy in the third round but would get stoned by Oscar Hicik (40/42), capping off his 40-save performance with a shootout victory to capture North Shore their third win of the season. 

Delta Hockey Academy Black (6) vs OHA Edmonton (4) U15

Jaxson Weisgerber (2G) got the ball rolling right away for OHA Edmonton, scoring just 10-seconds into play, granting them the early lead which they would hold on to till the late stages of the frame. Jesse Parmar (2G) would bring Delta Black back into the game with the said late goal. Into the second, Delta Black was running off the fumes from their late push in the first, scoring four times to establish an eventual 5-2 lead. Ian Kim would give OHA Edmonton some life with an early powerplay goal in the third, but it wasn’t enough to spark the comeback as Delta Black would rally on to a 6-4 victory in their showcase opener. 

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) vs St. George’s School (7) U15 Prep

Bronson Lamontagne (2G, 1A) and Noah Fowler (1G, 4A) traded power play goals before Louis Oscar Holowaychuk (5G) and Zach Lam (1G, 1A) scored 2:08 apart to give St. George’s a 3-1 lead. Alexander Sharman (1G, 2A) and Holowaychuk traded goals in the second as it remained a two goal game heading into the third. Holowaychuk completed the hat-trick 31 seconds into the third before another Lamontagne power play goal brought RHA Kelowna back within two. But Holowaychuk added 2 more goals to give him 5 on the night and 17 on the season as St. George’s earned a 7-3 win. 

North Shore Warriors (0) vs Edge School (9) U15

Edge needed just 29 shots to score 9 goals as they defeated North Shore 9-0. Hudson Andrews (6/6) made just six saves to record the shutout while Beckham Monette (2G) and Luke Tschetter (2G) each scored twice. Defenseman Jackson Saskiw (1G, 3A) led all skaters with four points. 

Edge School (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U15 Prep

In a tight checking first period Parker Naumann (2G) opened the scoring for NAX with three minutes left in the period. Steve Martyniuk extended the lead 2:49 into the second before Keagan Grant buried his own rebound past Karter Gibson (25/26) to get Edge on the board.Naumann would score again midway through the period and Nolan Wolitski (1G, 2A) would bury a rebound in front just before the buzzer to give NAX a three goal lead heading into the final period. In the third the NAX special teams went to work as Brady Ondrus scored shorthanded and Will Kelts scored a power play marker to give NAX the convincing 6-1 win. 

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (3) vs North Shore Warriors (4/OT) U18 Prep

Matteo Paradiso (2G) and Maxwell Hoey traded goals as the first ended tied 1-1. Parson Shahi scored 1:45 into the second and Sullivan Humeniuk scored a power play goal late in the period as PCHA scored three straight to grab a two goal lead heading into the third. Paradiso scored again early in the third and Tristan Hoko’s fifth of the season tied the game, forcing overtime. In OT North Shore would take a tripping penalty to put them down a man but Jonathan Lee (1G, 2A) would get a shorthanded penalty shot, beating Sam Saskiw (32/36) for the game winning goal. 

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (3) vs STAR Hockey Academy (7) U17 Prep

In a penalty filled first period Cooper Miller opened the scoring with a power play goal for Wenatchee. STAR would respond with three first period power play goals of their own as Levi Ellingsen (1G, 3A), Zachary Scmidt and Zak Stabbler (3G, 1A) all found the back of the net. After the power plays dominated the first, Aleks Ostrovskyy scored the lone second period goal while shorthanded for STAR. Ryder Bradstad brought Wenatchee within one just 52 seconds into the third but Dylan Kirkpatrick and Stabbler quickly responded for STAR. Sean Strasser scored a later power play goal for Wenatchee but it was cancelled out by an empty net hat-trick goal by Stabbler. 

Seattle Jr Kraken (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) U15

Coming off a 71 save performance in his last outing, Griffin Prairie Chicken (40/40) made 40 saves to record the shutout in a 2-0 RHA Kelowna win. After a scoreless first Harrison Sharman scored on the power play just 28 seconds into the second to give RHA Kelowna the only goal they would need. Hayden Carpenter added his sixth of the season midway through the second before a scoreless third. Philip Han (37/39) was in net for Seattle. 

Fort Erie International Academy (2) vs CIH Academy (0) U17 East

After a scoreless first period Travis McDougall (1G, 1A) scored 29 seconds into the second period to give Fort Erie the 1-0 lead. Thomas Harvey doubled the lead 5:25 into the second before a scoreless third saw the game end 2-0 in favour of Fort Erie. Demitry Gikas (50/50) and Sebastien Bourgeau (56/58) were in net for their respective teams. 

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (7) vs Notre Dame (4) U17 Prep

Power play goals 1:54 apart by Logan Arnold and Michael Camponi (1G, 1A) gave Notre Dame an early 2-0 headstart. Keegan Bragnalo got RHA Winnipeg on the board and Knox Burton (1G, 1A) scored a power play goal of his own 1:05 later to tie the game. RHA Winnipeg would take a 3-2 advantage into the third as Brady Keith (1G, 1A) scored 1:55 after Burton. Madden Van Kemenade, Atticus Cruz (1G, 1A) and Tayln Kopansky all scored in the second to increase the RHA Winnipeg lead. Maksim Bedskikh added Notre Dame’s third power play goal of the game late in the second to cut into the deficit. Sam Grunewald added his second of the season for RHA Winnipeg before Thomas Ma scored the fourth power play goal of the game for Notre Dame to round out the scoring. 

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep

Porter Rossi (1G, 1A), Nate MacPhee (2G, 1A) and Jack Brown (1G, 1A) all scored first period goals as RHA Kelowna led 3-0. Preston Dalebout got CDA on the board midway through the second but Rhett Tubello responded four minutes later for RHA Kelowna. MacPhee and Maddox Bentley (1G, 1A) scored third period goals as RHA Kelowna earned a 6-1 win on the road. Kai Ebert (14/15) and Jackson Wagner (44/50) were in net for their respective teams. 

St. George’s School (4/SO) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (3) U15

Tristan Reimer (1G, 1A) scored shorthanded and Jakub Palmer scored on the power play 1:59 later as Prairie grabbed a 2-0 lead after 20. Liam McLean (1G, 2A) and Briere Saunders traded power play goals 55 seconds apart as it remained a two goal game. Luca Rogers (1G, 1A) added a power play goal midway through the second and Freddie Brooks-Hill scored the first even strength goal of the game late in the second to tie the score at 3-3. Patrick Curtis (51/54) and Hudson Waddell (21/22) kept clean sheets in the third to force a five minute overtime, which solved nothing. In the shootout McLean and Alan Qiu both scored while Waddell stopped both Prairie shooters to give St. George’s the 4-3 win. 

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (0) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (8) U18 Prep

Backed by three power play goals and one shorthanded marker Prairie defeated Pilot Mound 8-0. Kale Pratte (3G, 1A) recorded a hat-trick while Hubert Larose (2G, 1A) added two goals of his own as the duo provided the majority of the offence. Defenseman Benson Hirst (1G, 2A) added three points and Cameron Beisal (14/14) made 14 saves for the shutout. Aiden Trapp (32/40) faced 40 shots in the loss. 

Prairie Hockey Academy (4) vs OHA Edmonton (5/OT) U17

Noah Stone (1G, 2A) scored 24 seconds in and Jayden Squissato (2G, 2A) and Nathan Okoloise scored later in the period as OHA Edmonton held a 3-0 lead after 20. Jake Myhre and Aiden Masse would bring Prairie within one going into the final 20 as they each found the back of the net in the second. Kaedyn Scherer (1G, 2A) doubled the lead early in the third but Alijah Lodhar and Cohen Greenwood (1G, 1A) tallied Prairie goals to tie the game and force overtime. In OT Squissato scored his ninth of the season and second of the game 34 seconds in as OHA Edmonton avoided the collapse and came out with the 5-4 win. 

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6/SO) vs Notre Dame (5) U15 Prep

In search of their first win of the season, Notre Dame grabbed a commanding 3-0 first period lead on goals from Mika Richard (2G), Ben Fox and Duke Lesnar (1G, 1A). Easton Pitz (2G) got RHA Winnipeg on the board midway through the second before Davian Ferland and Athens Shingoose (1G, 2A) swapped goals to close out the period. Sullivan Bowen scored a power play goal to bring RHA Winnipeg within one early in the third as they looked to complete the comeback. Richard temporarily halted the comeback attempt with his second of the game but Cohen Hlady scored just seven seconds later and Pitz added a power play goal with 1:04 remaining as RHA Winnipeg forced overtime. In the shootout Marko Malbasa was the only one of five shooters to score as Noah Hawkin (29/34) closed the door for RHA Winnipeg, giving them the come from behind victory. 

Shawnigan Lake School (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep

Quinn Coupland (12/12) and Donagh Esler-Twiss (54/57) kept clean sheets through the first 41:31 before Eli Vickers broke the deadlock, giving Delta the 1-0 lead. Ethan Kitchen added his first of the season midway through the frame and Peter Banicevic added a late insurance marker as Delta shutout Shawnigan 3-0 Friday. 

Delta Hockey Academy (6) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (3) U17

A shorthanded goal by Knox Vogel put CDA ahead early but Brady Olson (1G, 1A) responded on the same power play 1:11 later to even the score. Haven Brunham and the CDA special teams stayed active as they found the back of the net on the power play just minutes later. Logan Pankhurst (1G, 2A) tied the game 47 seconds into the middle frame and a power play goal from Lincoln Arkinstall (2G, 1A) gave Delta their first lead. Michael Veneziano would respond for CDA with their second power play goal of the game. Even at three in the third, Kaydin Halladay (1G, 1A) scored the game winning goal 4:11 into the final frame. Arkinstall doubled the lead moments later and Ewan Torrance (1G, 2A) added a late insurance marker as Delta defeated CDA 6-3. 

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (1) vs Yale Hockey Academy (12) U15

Yale outshot CDA 58-17 en route to a 12-1 win in the final game of the night. Mykah Cormier (2G, 1A), Max Ritchey (2G, 1A) and defenseman Lukas Stevens (2G, 2A) all scored twice in a game that saw all but one Yale skater recorded at least a single point. Tate Smith scored the lone goal for CDA in the loss.
