GAME DAY RECAP: March 7, 2024

North Shore Warriors Orange (5) vs Prairie Hockey Academy Blue (3) U17 Prep Tier 3

Chandrick Schulz and Riedar Armstrong scored in the first 6:30 as PHA Blue raced out to a 2-0 lead. Finlay Reed and Tyrese Martinez (2G, 1A) scored 1:03 apart late in the period as North Shore Orange tied the game going into the second. Martinez gave North Shore Orange their first lead of the game 6:41 into the second with his second of the game. Robert Orr (1G, 1A) extended the lead with the eventual game winner and Christopher Mah (1G, 1A) added a tally with 21 seconds left in the period. Tyson Ross found the back of the net for Prairie Blue with one second left to play in the second. Logan McAloney (47/50) made 25 saves in the final period to keep PHA Blue off the board and secure a 5-3 win. 

CDA (2) vs North Shore Warriors (6) U17 Prep Tier 3 Quarter-Final

Noah Friskie, Gavin Huynh and Cody Lee (2G, 1A) scored first period goals as North Shore raced out to a 3-0 lead. Lee extended the advantage 41 seconds into the middle period and Alen Ryzhkov (1G, 2A) added a power play marker 5:22 later. Owen Bambrick got CDA on the board midway through the period but Jake Banicevic (1G, 1A) responded just 17 seconds later to restore the five goal cushion. Preston Peterson scored a shorthanded consolation goal in the third to close out the scoring. Beckham Brossard (33/35) made 33 saves in net for the win. 

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy White (2) vs BWC Academy White (7) U17 Prep Tier 3 Quarter-Final

Mateo Prexler scored 2:16 in to give BWC Academy White the initial lead but Porter Williamson countered just 1:24 later. A goal by Gabriel Kaminski (1G, 2A) shortly after that put BWC Academy White back on top. Landen Mailhot and Aleks Ostrovskyy traded second period goals before Mark Lee (1G, 3A) extended the lead to 4-2 late in the period. Dominic Seminoff (1G, 1A) put the game out of reach late in the third and Nic Collins (1G, 1A) and Aiden Baker scored 58 seconds apart in the dying minutes to close out the scoring. Jeevin Sandhu (19/21) made 19 saves in the win. 

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (0) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (7) U17 Prep Tier 2 Semi-Final

Steven Wawryk (16/16) made 16 saves as SAHA defeated PMHA 7-0. Koen Gauthier, Brennan Finke (2G) and Jack Elliot scored in the first, Kingston Chisholm and Ty Wasyluk (1G, 3A) in the second, and Finke and Theron Bensler found the back of the net in the third. Kyle Beilman (42/49) made 42 saves in the loss. 

RHA Winnipeg (3) vs St. George’s School (6) U17 Prep Tier 2 Semi-Final

Minsuk Hou and Sam Auld (1G, 1A) gave St. George’s a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. Hayden Shtykalo got RHA Winnipeg on the board 47 seconds into the second with his second goal of the playoffs. Isaac Derksen and Lucas Benn (1G, 1A) scored 1:14 apart just minutes later to give St. George’s a 4-1 lead heading into the third. Casey Magarrell and Jett Deschamps scored third period goals as RHA Winnipeg clawed within one. But Brendan Morgan (1G, 1A) and Harshaan Kaila (1G, 2A) each scored empty net goals to secure a 6-3 St. George’s victory. 

Calgary International Hockey Academy (5/OT) vs BWC Academy Gold (4) U17 Prep Tier 1 Semi-Final

A goal by Lachlan Hanton gave CIHA the lead 4:06 into the first. But BWC Academy Gold led 2-1 after 20 thanks to goals from Nathan Tomcheck and Christian Revel (2G). Brendan Rudolph (2G) tied the game 3:48 into the second but the tie was short lived as Jack Tudhope (1G, 1A) restored the lead 1:35 later. Jack Coglan and Revel traded goals to close out the second period. Lincoln Martin (1G, 1A) tied the game after a lucky bounce sprung him on a breakaway seconds after he stepped out of the penalty box. In overtime, a great individual effort by Rhett Sather allowed Rudolph to find the back of the net and send CIHA to the finals. 

Prairie Hockey Academy White (2/OT) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme White (1) U17 Prep Tier 1 Semi-Final

After eliminating NAX Blue yesterday, PHA White eliminated NAX White today with a 2-1 overtime win. Ryland Molde opened the scoring 2:04 into the game before Will Hogan tied it 5:32 later. After a scoreless second and third period, Griffin Horne scored 57 seconds into overtime to send PHA White to the finals. Georgi Milanov (37/38) made 37 saves for the win while Ty Swanson (25/27) stopped 25 shots in the loss. 

North Shore Warriors Orange (5) vs CDA Navy (3) U17 Prep Tier 3

Artem Gunko and Jay Nooney scored as CDA Navy led 2-0 but Santino Esposito (1G, 1A) would get one back for North Shore Orange heading into the intermission. Finlay Reed (2G) and Ethan Elford scored 2:15 apart early in the second to put North Shore Orange ahead 3-2 and Christopher Mah added to the lead later in the period. Jace Williams (1G, 2A) brought CDA Navy back within one with 46 seconds left in the frame. An empty net goal by Reed with 40 seconds left secure the North Shore Orange victory. Erik Blair (36/39) and Mark Michelson (41/45) were in net for their respective teams.
