GAME DAY RECAP: February 27-March 2, 2023

Okanagan Hockey Academy (11) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (3) U15 Prep

Mathis Preston (3G, 2A) and Liam Ruck (3G, 1A) each tallied hattricks, Markus Ruck (2G, 1A) scored twice and Kadyn O’Brien (1G, 3A), Max Reed (3A), Tyson Schamehorn (1G, 3A), and Riley Steen (3A) all recorded three assists as OHA beat Delta 11-3. 

International Hockey Academy (4) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

Elias Eisenbarth scored just 19 seconds in and Ryan Miller (1G, 1A) would score 1:20 later as SAHA led 2-0 just 1:39 into the game. Max Sullivan would get IHA on the board in the closing minutes of the first. Gavin Garland (1G, 1A) would outdo Eisenbarth for fastest goal to start a period as he scored 18 seconds into the second to tie the game. Reyd Langan would score 1:35 later for IHA to give them their first lead before Gavin McKenna (1G, 1A) scored three minutes later to tie the game. Braeden Veldhuizen would score the eventual game winner midway through the second as Brenner Fyfe (27/30) shut the door the rest of the way. 

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4/OT) vs Delta Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

Daniel Zhou (1G, 1A) scored the lone first period goal for Delta before a pair of second period goals by Carson Lesiuk (3G) gave PCHA a 2-1 lead heading into the third. Colton Alain would extend the deficit 47 seconds into the third but Derek Thurston and Tyler Hansen would find the back of the net for Delta in a span of 1:08, eventually forcing overtime. Lesiuk would complete the hattrick just 25 seconds into overtime to give PCHA the 4-3 win. 

Yale Hockey Academy (7) vs North Shore Warriors (2) U18 Prep

Yale outshot North Shore 53-22 en route to a 7-2 victory on Wednesday. Chase Valliant (2G) and Savin Virk (2G, 1A) each scored twice while Luke Cozens (1G, 1A) and Grant Reid (1G, 1A) had multi-point games of their own. Malakai Zwiers (20/22) made 20 saves in the win. Ryan McAuley and Matteo Paradiso scored for North Shore in the loss. 

St. George’s School (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (2) U15 Prep

Harshaan Kaila (2G) and Ryan Lin (1G, 1A) traded first period goals as the second started tied 1-1. C.J. Sandhu would score midway through the second and another goal from Kaila would see St. George’s up 3-1 after 40. Taran Biring would score with 1:13 remaining in the game to bring Delta Green within one but they couldn’t find the equaliser as Kyle Taylor (23/25) stopped 23 shots to give St. George’s the 3-2 win. 

Prairie Hockey Academy (4) vs Notre Dame (3) U16 Prep

Kale Pratte (1G, 2A) scored 1:57 and Asher Watson, Caleb DeBruyne (1G, 1A) and Kyler Anderson would add first period goals of their own as Prairie led 4-0 after 20. Will St James and Carter Ellsworth would respond for Notre Dame in the middle of the second to bring them within two heading into the third. Nick Wytrychowski would score late for Notre Dame as they closed the gap to one but it was as close as they would get. Connor Millsap (39/42) made 39 saves in the win. 

Notre Dame (6) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (8) U15 Prep

Cohen Hayes (3G, 1A) opened the scoring 5:43 in but Louis James Prystupa (2G) responded for Notre Dame just 20 seconds later and William Chabot (2G) gave Notre Dame the lead heading into the second. The second period saw Jackson Haugan (1G, 1A), Boone Bender (1G, 2A) and Hayes score for Prairie and Ryder Gilroy and Chabot for Notre Dame as the game was tied entering the third. Determined to grab their first win of the season, Mykhailo Shelipov (1G, 1A) scored 49 seconds into the third and Kane Domres (2G, 3A) scored twice in a minute as PHA held a 7-4 lead 2:41 in. Mason Miller would respond for Notre Dame just over a minute later but another goal from Hayes would put the game out of reach. Prystupa would find the back of the net just 12 seconds later but it was too little, too late as John Gall (40/46) made 40 saves for the win. 

Edge School (5) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U18 Prep

Luke Lawdord would score the lone first period goal and Carter Klippenstein would score early in the second as Edge led 2-0. Bowen Grycan and Landon Hanson would score a couple minutes apart to temporarily tie the game before Terik Parascak (2G) re-gave Edge the lead just two minutes later. Brendan Calahasen and Parascak would each score third period goals to put the game out of reach. Jack Ketsa would score a power play goal for NAX with 1:04 remaining but they were unable to muster a comeback. 

International Hockey Academy (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3/OT) U17 Prep

Soren Nicol scored his second goal of the season 1:45 into the game as IHA grabbed a 1-0 lead. Jake Walker would respond for NAX nearing the end of the first and Luke Powell would score on the power play 3:13 into the second to give NAX the lead heading into the third. Luca Dufour would tie the game in the third to force OT where Finn Kallay would be the hero for NAX. 

RHA Kelowna (2) vs BWC Academy (6) U17 Prep

Brett Peebles (1G, 1A) opened the scoring 3:42 in for BWC Academy but RHA Kelowna led 2-1 after 20 thanks to goals from Shawn Minnabarriet and Tyce Wood. However, BWC Academy would score five unanswered as Liam Loughery (2G, 1A) and Will Shepard (2G, 1A) each found the back of the net twice. Daniel Morozov (1G, 1A) added the other BWC Academy goal and Nathan Kam (33/35) made 33 saves in net for the win.
