Edge School Captures First U15 Western Championship

Edge School (Calgary, AB) became the first accredited school outside of the Vancouver, BC area to win a Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) U15 Western Championship  when they defeated Yale Hockey Academy (Abbotsford, BC) 6-5 on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

It was Yale who would draw blood first when Matthew Dowdall (1G) scored his fourth of the playoffs 5:20 into the opening frame. Owen Cooper (3G,1A), would score midway through the opening frame to bring Edge level at one heading into the first intermission.

Ryker Swanson (1G,1A) and Logan Martin (1G) would each score once in the first 3:54 of the second period giving Yale a 3-1 lead. But Edge would get goals from Reed Reschny (1G,2A), Kyle Oakenfold (1G,1A) and Cooper to give them a 4-3 advantage heading into the deciding 20.

Koray Bozkaya (1G) would beat Cole Prelusky on the power play 3:49 into the third to tie the game at four, but just 12 seconds later Cruz Pavao (1G,4A) would re-gain the Edge advantage. Cower would complete the hat trick just minutes later, beating Korbin Rodel on a breakaway. Karsen O’Brien (1G,1A) would bring Yale back within one less than two minutes later, but that would be as close as they would get as Prelusky made 38 saves to earn Edge School their first ever U15 Western Championship.
