Delta Captures First U17 Prep Western Championship

Delta Hockey Academy captured their first ever Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Western Championship with a 9-3 victory over St. George’s School.

Miguel Marques (2G,2A) opened the scoring for Delta 3:30 into the first period with a power play marker.  Gavin Garland (1G,.1A), Jordan Gavin (1G,2A) and Marques would all score later in the first, giving Delta a 4-0 lead after 20.

St. George’s would get one back 58 seconds into the middle frame when Louie Sim scored a 5-on-3 power play goal. But Delta would respond with two 5-on-3 goals of their own 25 seconds apart when Colton Roberts (1G,2A) and Tomas Mrsic (1G,3A) found the back of the net. Tyler Hansen would score a power play marker of his own with eight seconds left in the period as Delta was up 7-1 heading into the third.

Cayden Lindstrom would extend the lead 1:11 into the third and Jaren Ashbee would score the final Delta goal with 5:29 remaining. Connor Pankratz and Anthony Ershadi would score late consolation goals for St. George’s, but it was Delta with the last laugh in the 9-3 victory. Noah Stenvig made 12 saves in the win.

Delta was the only program to win multiple championships at the 2022 Western Championships, with their U15 Prep Green team capturing the U15 Prep final.
